Spilled oil on engine
Dont ask how this happened, but I like spilled a bunch of oil around the err engine bay area. I tried to clean as much as I could, mostly what I could see. Umm, so like I went to drive somewhere real quick and I can smell some oil burning. Is this ok or is it really bad?

as long as you are sure you put the plugs back, if you spilled oil on the engine, it will burn off. Might as well double check to make everything is where it should be, and if it is you'll prolly smell that unless you do a super thorough cleaning.

I'll do an even more thorough cleaning tomorrow. I dont do a lot of driving, and when I do its short distances so I think it should be ok for the time being.

Go to a car wash and wash it off, just be careful using a pressure washer under the hood. Avoid letting the spray hit any electrical connections, bearings, etc. If it's just oil running down the block that should be simple.

Simple Green is a safe way to get rid of oil.

yup , + 1 on simple green or window cleaner . Use that for cleanup during oil changes , dissolves very well .

can of brake cleaner will do wonders. Its the staple of any lube shop. Cleans oil spills in a jiff. I think my shop uses 3 boxes a week.

Oh no, not at all I've done every oil change myself since I got my car. I did something a little more embarrassing than that...
BTW I cleaned it up very well and there is no longer that burning smell. Plus it looks good as new now. Thanks for all the help.

It'll smell like carbon heating up, it'll act like a shit-magnet for dirt, but that's about it.
