2018 Yaris Chirp on Startup

Hi,
thanks for letting me sign up to the forum.

When turning the engine over my 2018 Yaris chirps for not even a second. It doesn't happen all the time.

Is that common for Yaris'?

My OCD can't handle it!!
I was going to wait for the next oil change to get it checked. It seems too big of a deal to just make an appointment at the dealer for it.

Thanks!!

Same problem

My Yaris actually does this too . The chirp used to be a lot worse and went on for about 10 seconds before stopping but has been reduced to this very short chirp after I changed the alternator and fan belt. The belt is as tight as it should be.

I don't recall any chirps when my Yaris was 2 years old.

Time to tighten the serpentine belt a bit.

My 2009 did that for over a month straight, but has stopped now for about a week. I was scared that it was too much of a metal sound, like a pulley or engine bearing being run without lubrication. Quick chirp, just like the OP states, right at startup. Mine was at the first startup of the day or after like 8 hours. My belt seems fine though. I didn't do anything to it.

When starting the engine, make sure you turn the ignition key to position 1, wait a sec or two, and then go to position 2. When you go straight from 0 to 2 it may chirp.
I assume it has something to do with the computer that needs that 1 extra second to readjust the alternator excitation current - basically to offload the alternator to make the starter life easier.
