Question Sheared clutch into two pieces?

So the input bearing went bad in my 2004 echo 5 speed. We had a 6 speed out of a Celica GTS lying in the shed, Installed that as an upgrade. about 10 minutes into test drive im shifting into 3rd on a on ramp at 6500 suddenly no gears. got it home and took it all apart and I had sheared the clutch friction material off the center of the clutch. I have never heard of this happening, should I stay with a stock clutch to reduce driveline shock or should I upgrade to a stronger clutch?
