I managed to get this other shitty app hOBDrive demo to get some readings, but for some reason I cannot get Torque to get readings.

It's connecting with your code, but no readings. I tried some more codes I got from the net, same result.
ELM327 $6 adapter from ebay. It only works on 2002-2006 cars, tried it on a 2008 NZT260, didn't work. :(

The app OBDDash free on my windows 8.1 tablet was able to connect well enough with my 2007 Vitz RS using ELM327 to read DTCs.

Hi KTS,

Did you have to use any custom initiation strings ?

Oh man I don't want to buy a Windows tablet. If these things work on so many other devices/platform I am sure there is a way to get it to work with Torque.

I am not sure what you mean by custom initiation strings.

I just installed the app and clicked on connect and I was able to read the dtc associated with the check engine light but provide no real time data.

I then started unplugging connectors in the engine bay and checking the codes to verify if it was reading the correct codes and it was.

Also the mini vci cable and techstream v10.something works on my windows 8.1 tablet.

Ah I see.

Yea some apps can read the DTC but no real time data.
hOBDrive shows real time data but its $25 and has a shitty ui.

It must be something small. I've managed to get Torque to connect successfully to the ECU just no readings.

I am going to try some more apps I found recently online

I am hoping you will compile a list of apps and their settings that connect and show either dtc and rtd or both

Sorry , don't want to sound like a stalker here. I am the developer of the OBDdash app. I found this post via google.

I found it surprise that the live data does not work for you given that the check error code works fine. Can you please provide a bit more details about this issue?

On the gauge screen, if you tap on any empty gauge, does the app shows a flyout? if so, does the flyout contains any sensors? If there are sensors listed on the flyout, single tap on any of them should assign this sensor to the gauge, and live data should be displayed thereafter.

Great job on the app!!!

Sorry, wasn't any plan on the Android move :(

On the bright side, when I did a search of OBD on google play store, I think it returns over 100 apps :)

The reason I made this on Windows tablet is just to fill the void as there was Zero OBD app for Windows tablet at the time I started :)

FWIW, I bought a cheapish ODB scanner from Ebay which was meant to be for the Yaris. It ruined the entire car. Nothing worked afterwards. The engine idled at 300 revs, the gearbox didn't work etc etc.
So, I bought another specific to Toyota (can't remember the name but it was a Canadian company). Rubbish. The bluetooth connection never worked and it told you wonderful things like your road speed only when it did work
