Wheel Stud specs
I'll be changing over from winter to summer tires and would like to clean up the stud threads with a die. Does anyone know what size die I should use?

studs have 12 x 1.5 mm thread
your studs are rusty? why not just clean /grease them? (to grease is usually not a good advice but needed sometimes) |

Thanks but I think the problem is not so much rust or dirt but with an over enthusiastic tire changer who was in love with his air tools' power.
I'm not sure if the threads have been stretched or not so I want to try the die before I resort to changing the studs. |

Have a look for a "thread chaser" rather than a die. They are made to clean up threads rather than cut new ones. Will work better (cheaper too).
When over-torqued it's often the lugs that get damaged. The small end of the taper gets pinched in causing it to be tight on the lug. Cheers. |
