Make dash less slippery to set coffee cup
I have my favorite coffee cup and It does not fit well in the cup holders. A flat dash would have been ideal rather than a wasted slippery approximately 35 degree slope from the windshield. I have tried to remedy this situation without changing my favorite coffee cup.
I have cut a sticky kitchen shelf fabric and placed it in 3 separate areas on the dash to set my cup. This seems to work while turning normally at intersections. I wish manufacturers would make the dash area have some flat spots with a rough texture to allow for one to set items on the dash and not move (slide off the dash onto the floor) while turning at typical intersections. Hopefully someone will pass this info on to the designer gurus to make use of the dash. I was reading over old threads and found it strange that many people with 1996 and newer cars cut 3 to 4 holes in the dash to mount various gauges. Strange since the time, effort to cut the holes, connect the wires, and pay for the various gauges vs. just buy a all-in-one gauge device like the ultragauge for $80 with shipping (or a scan guage which is more) simply plug them into the obdii connector and stick/velcro to dash. Are there other coffee addicts out there with their favorite cups that have other ideals for enjoying their favorite brew without getting it spilt on the pants on the way to work? (drilling a big hole in the dash = not being an option for the cup) |

If it were me, I'd find a new favorite cup that fit in the cup holders.

Just setting a coffee cup on the dash sounds like a bad idea...

It's a shame our dash cup holders aren't available. Would've worked well especially if they were placed at the ends where they meet the doors. Tsk tsk...

I second the Contigo! Best travel mug ever! 100% leak proof. 2-packs of them available at Costco.

Sticking a coffee cup on a flat dash will just fall over. I've seen inserts that allow you to place a bigger cup in the inserts. Problem is they still stick out.
Yaris isn't made for coffee drinkers. I have a Thermis type coffee mug that works great. Problem is, here in the US the holder is on the left side. I had to adjust the opening to allow me to hold the cup with my left hand. I'm a righty, and that's pretty hard after using the holder on the Camry in the middle console for 13 years. |
