JBL Amp question
Hey guys.
I'm planning on putting one of the OEM nav units in my 07 LB. I read that I need one of the Toyota JBL amps in order for it to work. There are several available on ebay from various Toyota models. My question is does it matter what model the amp came from? They all look pretty much the same to me. Also does anyone know if the OEM nav unit will work with the factory aux jack? I've read the DIY that explains how to connect it via RCA to an aftermarket deck, but I'm hoping the Toyota nav deck will just automagically work. I guess that would depend on how old the deck is right? Okay so that is 2 questions. |

I'm surprised to hear a nav unit needs an amp to run. But I'm not familiar with the OEM one. As far as the amp though, if you really do need one it shouldn't matter which one. Any amp with enough wattage to handle what your installing will be fine.

some nav units have special wiring and no amplification. if he gets a regular jbl amp and tries to install it the low voltage wire harness may not fit right. also, the wiring instructions for factory should have the compatible amps that go with it.

Ahh. That makes sense. If that's the case he prolly does need the specific amp. Interesting.

Thanks for the info. I was looking at one like this one:
Ebay link. The auction ends soon so here is the basic info on it: Toyota Model # 17006, Part # 86120-35240 with a MFD August 2002 There is another auction for a newer model, Part # 86120-08160 that looks about the same. I'm gonna pass on that auction until I understand what all I need for it to work in my car. They turn up on ebay fairly regularly. Here is the post explaining why I need the JBL amp. navigation post Last edited by kudzu71; 05-20-2009 at 10:32 AM. |
