Purchasing a Yaris soon and would love help!
so my girlfriend is buying a new car, and she really loves the yaris. we have seen some 2007-2009's with 70k-80k miles and loves the fact that we can get up to 40mpg on the highway. But the big question is reliability. Will these cars run well over 150k miles with the regular maintenance or is there a problem many yaris owners have that can affect the checkbook. just trying to make sure we get a good car. Thank you all!

There are so many threads easily found asking the same thing. The first page of this sub-forum has at least 8 of them. They all pretty much state the same facts.
As far as reliablilty, we have members here running in excess of 400,000 miles with only routine maintenance, and normal wear and tear stuff.

thats awesome to hear. we are also moving to florida and will be making the 20 hour drive (oneway) to illinois once or twice a year as well, so reliability and the gas mileage are the 2 biggest things. So far everything i have read for the yaris looks really good. i just wanted to get some input on personal experience though as well

Watch the water pump.
Check out the threads here on how to check if it's going out. Mine has a tiny leak :( Good thing The Previous Owner had a 100k transferable warranty:) |

There is a whole forum post regarding reliability. YarisWorld members posted mileage points where major (if any) problems occurred:
http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11162 I can say, for the most part the reliability is impressive! |

They are very reliable. They are also cheap. It may develop rattles and have loud road noise. This is in exchange for money savings and piece of mind.
I had to replace my water pump at 85k miles. At 90k now and everything is fine in it. Anticipate things like tires and a serpentine belt with any car ou buy. Also change the auto/manual tranny fluid as most people don't ever. Also stick around on this forum, there are people with a crazy amount of knowledge about these cars |

Someone we know that owns a 2010 3 door with the automatic that had the tranny fluid changed at 100,000+ miles and is fine . We plan to do the same for the '08 sedan .

It's always good to change your trans fluid every 50,000 miles, in an auto or standard transmission.

I replace auto trans fluid at 15k. Remember you trans gears are moving all the time and I push little bit hard some time. Love the VVTI kick sounds!!!!
