Question What a leaking water pump looks like?

Hi everyone,

Probably one of my first posts here. I took my 08 hatch in for an oil service yesterday, and was told my water pump is starting to leak. I looked up some threads here and saw mentions of pink stains and streaks across the hood, so I popped mine open to have a look.

Is this (attached photo) what a leaky pump looks like? Just trying to make sure it is what they say it is. The white residue doesn't look like it wants to come off when you rub it - kinda like salt precipitate after you boil water off (which is what it probably is).

Appreciate your comments!

That's it

Your picture is the first thing I look for under the hood. I assume you are having to add coolant to your tank? Good luck on the repair.

Mine went ~25k miles and I let it go for maybe 6 months since the wp pulley wasn't wobbling and the coolant tank remained full.

My 2009 has the original at almost 58,000 miles. Recommended to replace every 50k miles. Car doesn't come out in winter the past two years, replacing it this winter as preventative maintenance.

Check the weep hole under the drive shaft of the pulley but with that mess spraying, it should be quite obvious with the same stains in the pump area.

Thanks for comments! I ended up having it replaced. Hopefully this one lasts a while.
