Finding a 5 speed LB to test drive

I went to a Toyota dealership yesterday in hopes of test driving a new Yaris. Unfortunately, they didn't have a single 5 speed on the lot. Not one! What's with all the automatics? Are people really too lazy to shift? I guess I'll have to keep checking around until I find a dealer that has a 5 speed.

If all else fails you can come visit me in VA and take mine for a spin.

If Jamal is like me (another ATL resident) he's constantly sitting in mind-numbing traffic whether its to go to the neighborhood grocery store or to commute on the road-raged filled interstates of this city.

Its really a pain to have to nurse a clutch pedal in all this mess. A slushbox onboard is one less thing to worry about as you are forever watching for the next wayward SUV with the driver on the phone going 90+ on your rear bumper.

I could understand that. The manual makes driving more of a focus for me as I strive to make the most efficient use of the engine/drive train. Just a side note to this conversation, but I have always used the transmission for engine breaking when I am coming to a stop and have received some phenomenal mileage before brake pad replacement. I grew up with farming & trucking in the family and seldom drove an automatic. Maybe after I retire I will be in too automatics?

So you'd rather put wear on your engine instead of the brakes?

I guess if it is recommended/ok on quarter of a million dollar piece of heavy equipment then it can't be that bad for my little Yota. Keep in mind that I still brake and keep the revs down to a moderate level. Hell, it even has the recommended shift points (up & down) in the owners manual.

I live near Chicago so I'm used to driving a manual in traffic (I currently have a '99 Corolla with a 5 speed), and I still wouldn't go with an automatic. Manuals are jusy way too much fun to drive.

Yeah, a manual trans is a little tiresome in stop-and-go traffic, but I just deal with it. I'm still glad I didn't get an automatic.

They had several 5 speed LBs? I live in Huber Heights. I'll have to check them out.

Oh, thats just a skip and a jump for you then. Yes, they had at least 3 or 4 of them. I test drove both an auto and a 5 spd. Not a huge color selection though. Ask for Dave Hall and tell him Jeremy Manning sent you. He's a good guy to deal with.
