Hello, EGR question:)
Hi all
New member here. I have a 2002 Yaris D4D. I would really like to delete or block the egr valve, not because it's stopped working or causing me any problems but just because I don't believe it is needed and that hopefully I might get better fuel consumption. Now I've searched the Internet far and wide and I can't find any how to's. I've played about a bit with it and the vacuum hose that comes off the egr and goes into a green plastic thing ( sorry will post pics tomorrow) I pulled that off and it had no effect at idle until I stuck my finger over the suction hole and car nearly cut out, then when I asked my brother to rev the car to around 3.5k I again stuck my finger over the suction hole and it had no effect. Now I'm assuming that the egr valve only is working at idle, and therefore if I leave the pipe disconnected that will basically bypass/delete the egr? Or is there a kit I can buy to delete? Thanks hope I haven't lost anyone ![]() Sent from my iPhone 5 using Tapatalk. Last edited by Redflow2014; 10-05-2014 at 05:08 AM. |

The best way to bypass the EGR is with a blanking plate between it and the exhaust manifold. That way the ECM stays happy (no check engine light). If you search on ebay in Europe you may be able to find a pre-fabricated one for your 1ND-TV.

It works in idle as well as at rev. The effect of leaving it open is just more noticeable at low RPM, as you are basically doing the same as creating a vacuum leak when you just pull the hose.

Hilux ones are readily available, but I don't see any Yaris ones out there. If you look at the Yaris EGR, it looks like the plate would be fairly simple to fabricate out of a piece of sheet metal.

Hey guys I just took some pictures.
This is my egr valve ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() So what I'm asking is. The little black suction hose that goes into the EGR valve if I take it off, the car will work fine and the EGR will be bypassed? The fifth photo also shows a component that moves when the aforementioned pipe is disconnected further reinforcing the idea that said pipe "turns off " the EGR valve? Also their are two holes going from EGR to manifold not seen an EGR shaped like this before?? Thanks. Sent from my iPhone 5 using Tapatalk. |

If the EGR valve stays closed when you remove and plug the vacuum hose, then I would agree that is sufficient to bypass it.

usually it's just a blockoff plate as toyota fortuners and mitsubishi monteros (popular midsize SUVs here) do that.
you can google and ive posted one of the results for such: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/...ing-egr-valve/ |

Ok so I'm going to fabricate a blanking plate myself because I cannot find a premade one.
Please tell me do I block the part with two holes (pic 3 post 9?) Thanks. Sent from my iPhone 6 + using Tapatalk. |

As ctscott mentioned, it can be as simple as a thin aluminum sheet cut on the outside border the same as the seemingly y-shaped design left on it on the pic. Include the holes for 2 bolts so it stays in place.
Im not sure if you need to remove/block the small tube for air but if i guess right it's purpose is to simulate a cold engine so that the egr valve is closed? Not sure though. |
