engine rattle noise NOT the exhaust shield

so basically since the car was new its had an odd rattle, sometimes its worse than others, but its officially annoying as hell and on my sh!t list to fix

its tinny and rattly and i assumed it was a heat shield but nothings loose

today i went out with a nice chunk of sound deadner and covered over the exhaust, no change, covered the intake side, minimal change, covered the front timing cover area and whoa sound almost gone, so its deffinatly front side noise, im going to pull the belt and see if noise changes

so..whats the deal?...the car has about 160k on the clock..kilometers not miles, and is a 07 canadian 5dr

it does seem to "fade" a bit when warm and in the summer, its way worse in the winter months

originaly it was changed via dealer untill the warrenty was up, i personaly have been changing it the past 10 years, its been doing it since probably a year after it was new, i even switched over to synthetic hoping maybe that might effect it for better or worse..no change

I had a problem like this on my older Yaris. The exhaust donut gasket was making a weird rattle everytime you would shift gears, or it would move. Its the flange ahead of the converter. Might be your issue

Might be the joint between the exhaust header and pipe, the donut gasket over time compresses and then the pipe and manifold rattle... I had to replace it once already on my yaris, like about 7 years ago, (mine is a 2008), and now its doing it again.. Will replace it this summer..

You can search this site for threads on this issue..
