Rear Bumper Removal
Need help/advice.
Attempting to remove my rear bumper. I've removed the two bolts under the hatch, the four plugs along the bottom edge, and the plate light. Instructions that I have found here on YW by SodiumDuck simply state to now just grab a corner and pull it off. Can't get it to break free. I'm assuming that there are still a series of snap clips that the bumper still needs to pop free of. It just feels that if I pull any harder on anything, something is going to snap. What's the trick to getting this off. Enough people have done it so it can't be too tricky or risky. Thanks.

You do have to pull harder than you would think.

Caution!!!!!!!
This is not just a grip-and-rip once all obvious fasteners have been removed.
I got a tip which came too late for me. The first tab in the corner of the bumper is a 'double' clip. It requires prying with a small flat instrument to pop it. Just a quick pull will, and did, break the tabs on the bumper. Once the first one is free, then it is a matter of giving the bumper a quick yank.

I had the same or a similar problem yesterday. I damaged the clip (left side, next to the tire?). It was already split in two parts and when i mounted the bumper i broke one part off. Any idea how to fix this? I guess some kind of glue like its used to mount spoilers is the only option?
Its the clip at the picture. I marked it in red. The bumper is a little bit misaligned there now. About 1-2mm only but i am a perfectionist sometimes. :( |

Here is a never before published view of the clip bar which secures the bumper facia to the fenders. (ImageShack has rotated the image on me)
There are four clips. Once the bottom one is free, the others will release by giving the facia a quick firm pull outwards. Close up of the clip which will break the bumper tab if not released properly. You need to get in behind with a slim flat tool of some sort and push the bumper tab forward to release it from the clip. While pushing forward, pull outward on the bumper to free it.

Not quite so lucky. I have the 2010 RS bumper that came off of echo_hrs' car. Removed it again for paint on Monday and took pics of the clip bar for everyones benefit.
