i was wondering how much would it be to get the speed o meter calibrated? Im tired of getting tickets and guessing how fast im really going, i tried calling toyota but the girls that answer put me on hold and will just transfer me to different dept. and im on hold for about 10-15 minutes and they hang up on me. I just don't want to take a drive out there and waste gas if they are not able to do anything about it since i lowered the car and put after market rims. Any info would be appreciated!! I just don't know what to do anymore.. lol

My rims are 17' my tires are 205/40/17 i know thats the right tire size

im not sure if they are gonna be able to do anything about it because i already tampered with the stock height by putting after market rims and lowered it

Try calling a major auto center nearest you. Some places can calibrate I think. Doesn't have to be a Toyota dealer, right?

Yes, if you run bigger wheels it's gonna throw off the speedometer.

Doesn't a scangauge give you MPH? If not go with a GPS like WeeYari said. Or just drive a couple mph slower. Can't be off by that much.

yea if it comes down to it i might as well buy a gps, instead of using my gps on my phone and killing my battery lol

^ Kimmy, i run the same setup as you. I am on H&R springs, 205/40/17 Enkei RS7 rims. I usually drive 2-3 notches below what it says on the speedometer.

If the speed limit is 40 mph, i drive 38 mph, in order to stay well within the radar guns speed clock...and I've passed many cops in hiding spots, and was fine. I been doing this for 2 years now.

how fast did they get you at (on the ticket)? how fast were you going( on the speedo)?
the wheel/tire set up you running are at stock circumference spec give or take .3in
try put ur stockies back and see if they still tag you if they do they radar gun might need checking

i put my stock n i was still having problems that when i got my ticket in dec. this time i was going up a lil bridge and i was going 80 which means im really going 75, well came up to the 65 speed limit sign n the cop was right there i didnt get to slow down n he said he clocked me

Well if you were going 10 over the speed limit, then your problem is with speeding... not the calibration of your speedo? LOL

^^ so you're going 77.25 when you're speedo says 75. I really really doubt a cop is going to give you a ticket for 2 mph over or less.

From what I've found our speedometer doesn't have a calibration mechanism (other than changing the speedometer sensor on the tranny for OEM 14" vs 15" wheel difference).

The speedometer sensor sends a square wave with the frequency proportional to the speed to the cluster. The cluster converts the input signal to speed and drives the needle accordingly. Some speedometers have an adjustment mechanism (either hardware adjustment or software parameter), but there's not one for the Yaris.
