YARIS FAQ (frequently asked questions)
This will be an open sticky so that people can add to it. However please make sure there are no duplicates of answers.
If there are any questions you do not find answers here, a good bet is to check the manual that came with your car ![]() Where is the Driver's/Owner Manual located? In the passenger glovebox Do all Yarii come stock with an tachometer? No, the USDM Yaris doesn't have the Tachometer as standard option. Only the sedan version has it with the power package, as well as the "S" Package 2008-onward LB models. The CDM has both LB and Sedan standard. You can add an aftermarket one and connect it through the OBDII port. Here is a DIY for tach installation:http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/sho...ght=Tachometer In other markets like Europe or Japan, different trims of the car will or will not have a tachometer. It is standard on all cars manufactured for the Southeast Asia region Where is the temperature gauge in the Yaris? The Yaris does not have a temperature gauge per se. It is equipped with two display lights in the instrument cluster. One is Green and says Cool the other one is Red and says HOT, this light will be the one that comes on when the engine is overheating. No graded gauge in either the sedan or the LB. You can add an aftermarket one and connect it through the OBDII port or with a sensor on an actual coolant hose. What is the stock tire size on both base and fully loaded Yaris? Stock Base: 175/65/14 Stock Loaded: 185/60/15 Where is the car jack located ? The jack is under the driver's seat. To remove it you will need to move the seat up and take the protective cover off. How big is the tank? The tank has the capacity of 42liters or 9.2 Gallons (11.1 with the reserve) What is the curb weight of the Yaris? Hatchback/LB:.........................Sedan: 3DR CE Manual :....................................Manual: 1,043kg (2 300lbs).............................1,050kg(2,315l bs) Automatic :................................Automatic: 1,064kg (2,345lbs).............................1,065kg(2,3 48lbs) 5DR CE Manual : 1,050kg (2,315lbs) Automatic : 1,071kg (2,360lbs) 3DR RS: Manual : 1,052kg (2 320lbs) Automatic : 1,073kg (2,365lbs) 5DR RS: Manual : 1,059kg (2,335lbs) Automatic : 1,082kg (2,385lbs) I have a manual Yaris, but it won't start why? All modern cars with manual transmission have a safety switch that is connected to the clutch. In order to start a manual car you need to fully depress the clutch and while in the depressed position turn the ignition on. What bulbs are used in the Yaris? 2007 TOYOTA Yaris (Hatchback) High & low beam headlamp 9003/HB2 9003SU Silverstar ULTRA for Ultra Night Vision - The Whitest and Brightest Halogen 9003ST Silverstar High Performance Lighting: The Whiter and Brighter Halogen 9003XV XtraVision Halogen - The Brighter Light 9003CB Cool Blue Halogen - The Whiter Light Parking light 2825 2825LL Long Life Upgrade: Up to twice the life of the standard lamp Front turn signal 7507 7507AST Silverstar Signal Lighting: Complete the Look: Crisp, Clean, Style 7507LL Long Life Upgrade: Up to twice the life of the standard lamp Rear turn signal 7507 7507AST Silverstar Signal Lighting: Complete the Look: Crisp, Clean, Style 7507LL Long Life Upgrade: Up to twice the life of the standard lamp Tail light 7443 Stop light 7443 High mount stop light Assembly Fog/Driving light H11-55W License plate 2825 2825LL Long Life Upgrade: Up to twice the life of the standard lamp Back up light 7506 7506LL Long Life Upgrade: Up to twice the life of the standard lamp Front sidemarker 2825 2825LL Long Life Upgrade: Up to twice the life of the standard lamp Dome light DE3022 DE3175 Trunk/Cargo area DE3022 Why is the throttle cable not accessible to us? The Yaris doesn't have the traditional throttle control. It is a drive by wire system that monitors the gas pedal's position and controls the throttle assembly accordingly. I can't seem to find the power steering pump, where is it? Just like the throttle control system the power steering is electric and uses motors instead of a hydraulic system to assist with the steering. I want to remove the rear seats, how do I go about it? Please consult this thread:http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=306 Where can I find DIY (do it yourself) manuals? Right here:http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/sho...r+Seat+removal Where is the tow hook located? The tow hook is located either next to the spare tire in a vinyl bag or in the passenger glove box. Where can I find Toyota Service Bulletins (TSBs)? Take a look here: http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9753 Where can I find Toyota's parts reference? http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/ Where can I obtain the service manual for the Yaris? The 2007 Toyota Yaris service manual can be found here:http://www.etimago.com/yaris/repairmanual/ I need to reset my check engine light (CEL) how do I do it? Please look in here:http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3940 Does the Yaris have a timing belt or chain? The Yaris is equipped with a timing chain, not a belt for much longer longevity. This will save you an estimated $300-$500 by not needing the 90K belt change. How long should I keep the key in the START position? The Yaris ignition has an auto start feature so that you don't need to hold it on start for the engine to turn over. Just crank it to start for a second and release. What is DFCO? Deceleration Fuel Cut Off. An advanced engine system in the Yaris that cuts off the fuel supply when decelerating while in gear (engine braking, without touching the accelerator at all). Taking advantage of this feature allows for even greater fuel efficiency, and is completely automatic and seamless. Where is the fuel reserve light? The Yaris doesn't have the reserve warning light per say. When the second to last fuel bar disappears, you have approximately one gallon of gas left. The less fuel in the reserve the faster will the light blink and once completely empty it will turn off completely. It is recommended to refill your tank as soon as the indicator starts blinking, as the fuel pump is cooled by the gas in your tank, running low often might cause overheating damage to the pump. What is Caveatipse and why is this such a sensitive subject around YarisWorld? Caveatispe is an ex member turned troll. He is extremely obnoxious, rude and disrespectful to other members of this community. He is to be ignored and reported to the nearest Moderator and/or Admin. Believed to be behind the forum hack of October 2008, he can be easily found by looking at TRD Sway Bar, Plastic Dipstick, Bad Paint or any long forgotten threads that reappear out of the blue. PLEASE DO NOT FEED THE TROLL. How long should I idle my Yaris for it to warm up? You shouldn't. When cold starting your Yaris just drive conservatively until the Cold light turns off. You are minimizing the stress on the engine due to sudden temperature change as well as saving gas. It takes about 5 minutes of driving normally for the engine to reach the optimal temperature. I have an automatic Yaris but the engine is revving high all the time, and I get crap mileage, what causes this? First off you need to check that your shifter is properly seated in the D position. If it is cold outside the transmission will hold the 3RD gear until optimum temperature is reached. A common mistake can also cause the engine to rev high, the 3RD gear position is placed laterally to the D position and one must verify this by either looking at the shifter or the instrument cluster. What are the fold down compartments in front of the side AC vents? Cupholders! Keeps your cold drinks cold when the AC's on, and your hot drinks warm when the heater's on ![]() What engines are available on the Yaris? For the North American region, only the 1.5L engine is available In Japan, there is the choice between a 1.0L, 1.3L, and 1.5L engine, plus a TRD turbo'd 1.5L version In Europe, there is a choice between a 1.0L, 1.3L, 1.4L diesel, and 1.8L engine In other countries, the most common engines seem to be either the 1.3L or 1.5L engines I have 60/40 rear seats but I cannot fold them flat? You need to slide them all the way forward, then the seat backs will fold flat.

11.1 gallons must be taking into account the reserve tank.
just a suggestion PK, it would be nice to see the units of curb weight (kg/lbs)

"Do all Yarii come stock with an tachometer?
No, the USDM Yaris doesn't have the Tachometer as standard option. Only the sedan version has it." This statement might be a little miss leading. Just because it's a Sedan, doesnt mean it will have a tach. You must purchase the power package on the Sedan inorder to get the tach. |

made a couple quick changes, I believe the US "S" LB does have a tach? and... we have a regular steering colum, but with electric power steering, not a totally electric system ![]()

Yes, the "S" LB is the only LB in the US that comes with a tach.

It may be good to add also information about the tow hook, as in how it's located in the back and it hooks up in the front.

How about adding the oil viscosity choices, like 5 W 30, and how much oil needed W/WO filter.
