Official "CASTREX" WINTER THREAD

Ok, so over the last few days I have seen so many "Winter" related posts. You know, people asking about the best winter tires for the Yaris, folks talking about installing their winter wheels in the next couple of weeks....

All this Winter talking makes me feel like I should share some of my Winter pictures with all you Northern-Hemisphere fellow Yaris owners.

But there is one small problem, I don't really have a winter down here... only Rainy and dry Season. And guess what??? Right when your winter is about to start... My SUMMER is also about to start... I have a 3-4 more weeks of rain and then 4 months of summer!

So these are some pictures of Your last winter / My last summer...

Enjoy.

I am really glad I live in the South. Those 100 degrees days suck in the summer, but at least I don't have worry about losing the car.

You should really work from home Bob. Looks like you live in the middle of nowhere.

Yeah, but up here in El Norte I don't have gigantic six legged freaks trying to get into my home since winter slays them. No tropical diseases like Leishimeniasis (mountain leprosy). No Dengue Fever, no Malaria, no Yellow Fever - except what people bring home with them. No leeches since winter wastes them. No cystericosis (tapeworms setting up housekeeping in the brain and heart) since winter wastes them too.

While the cold and short days can sap the spirit they also can temper it. Winter places demands upon the body to which it responds. Winter creates a sense of adversity which one knows is transient. Snowballs, tricky winter driving, surviving another road trip. You will be denied these things.

Still, I wouldn't mind a little peace and quiet, which I hear that Costa Rica abounds in.

You'd love the snow. Skiing. Snowballs. Most of the kids I attended school with who came from countries near the equator enjoyed winter. It was a real novelty seeing snow, kicking it around, rolling in it and having snow ball fights.

In case you did not know, a snow ball is made from snow of a certain consistency. It has to be "wet" snow or the ball will crumble. Poorly raised children will take a snow ball, compress it violently, let it sit over night and then use it as a projectile. Such "ice balls" can cause broken noses, missing teeth and other injuries. Some of us added gravel or rocks to the mix, creating a sort of ice concrete. Great for drawing screams out of victims.

That all being said, you'd have to be trained how to drive in snow. It's not natural to drive on a substance which can have the consistency of axle grease. You have to learn how to maneuver, how to glide the car and how to cope with sudden problems. It's not hard to do but it takes some training and experience to manage it.

Considering that many natives never quite get the hang of winter driving it's a wonder we're not dying right and left up here.

What's strange to us in the north is our counterparts in the Southern US. When they get snow they either panic and shut everything down or they continue to drive at high speeds and die in massive pileups. It's like they simply don't "get it" that snow is something you respect, not something you either dread or ignore.

I live is a place where the drifts can be 8-10 feet (3 meter's) deep in my driveway but my neighbor has a front end loader. I usually have a 20 foot high pile of snow every year in my yard.

All these pics are ones in my pc..... so far this season we have not had any snow stick.
