Personal Best with MPG

Just wanted to post my Yaris lifetime mileage stats ... (I am only on my fourth tank but I seem to be getting reasonably consistent numbers).

L/100 KM .... MPG Imperial .... MPG US
6.233680 ... 45.468933.......37.860767

Probably 90% of my travels are in the city .. with 10 % Highway mileage.

I have been having a hard time getting better mileage as construction season seems to have taken a hold recently. Maybe someday it will end ..

I have a 2007 3 Dr LB 5 Spd Yaris. Are my numbers above reasonable ?

Nope , that's the norm . The '08 w/ the auto hovers around 38 overall for the last 4 years .

Read that putting your car in neutral while at a stop can save fuel . Been doing that lately . That's if there's enough time to .

Hi......I can get 45 miles per gallon with 85% city and 15% hwy driving with the hypermiling ideas. You know...coast thur the work zone and up to stoplights ahead. no quick starts keep revs under 2000. check the Tach next to the speedometer( hope you have one). I tried It for the first time with my auto 2010 sedan and works great. you can read my tips to drive like a prius blog by clicking my name on this or other blogs. Some good info and fun stuff about yaris.you might have a feature called dfco yes its spelled right. read about it on google search and check you tube about hypermiling tips ( prius driving tips work too ). I always am in neutral (is very easy with a 5 speed) when I am sitting at a light. But it is when I am sitting at a light that I lose all my progress I have made. My ScanGauge goes up at the lights (it shows 9999 on the display, but my average mileage does go up at the lights) .. *sigh*. That's why I try to time it so I don't have to sit at too many lights.

Hear yeh on that . Especially those cold morning starts and get to watch those m.p.g.s' disappear . Have the Eco-Meter .

I just filled up and got the best mileage I have gotten so far with my Yaris. I did 637.7 km and 36.470 L which is 5.72527 L/100 KM or 41.0835 US MPG. That is close to 2 MPG better than my last tank and a lifetime average of 38.666450 US MPG.

I have learned recently that I am better off switching to 4th gear (and a lower RPM) when I am cruising around the city as it is much better than staying in 3rd gear (and a higher RPM). I have been able to get consistently less than 5 L/100KM by shifting into 4th gear. So I shall see how much of a difference that makes on the current tank.

The only bad thing .. is that the price of gas is now 7 cents / L ($2.55 more on a fill) more than it was this morning. I knew I should have gassed up when I had the chance earlier today ... oh well live and learn. I am just happy that I don't drive a pickup or an SUV like most people here. Go Yaris Go.

I got a 1.0 3 cylinder:

33km on 1 litre. Driving 70km/h in fifth gear, normal weather.

The other day I broke my most MPG a tank by .910 gallon.

Most MPG now is 53.925 MPG with ethanol. Got 520 miles on the tank.

Used all the hypermiling techniques, plus 1 trip over 300 miles driving 40-50 MPH on country and hwy roads to Pittsburgh, PA. Large hills... DFCO used. The rest of the driving using the same speed. Revs less than 1,500 RPM on shifts. Tires 44 PSI front and rear. No AC use. Drove mostly early and in the evening. Dry weather temperature 60-80 F.

Thanks. Firm believer if you stick with the plan, in this case hypermiling, the results will show. 90% of great mileage is from driver mechanics. The other 10% from physical car mechanics.

I just filled up and have got the best tank to date. I just got 662 km on my tank (411.3477 miles).

L/100 KM .... MPG Imperial .... MPG US
5.48640 --- 51.4875 ------ 42.8722

So this is the first time I have gotten over 50 MPG Imperial.

My lifetime average is as follows.

Nice . Possibly on way to 7th tank of 41+ m.p.g.. Eco has been reading lower . Tires are Eco Plus hovering around 36 p.s.i. and little less than 9/32s' . Here's pics taken earlier . Oil is Shell synthetic 5w-30 .

Wow... you guys are producing amazing gas mileage.

My overall average for the first 1,150 miles is only 36.7mpg.

bumper to bumper traffic, for an hour and then a quick drive on the high way for 2 hours and still got 37.5 MPG (US). One of these days, I will finally drive economical and not like i'm trying to race everyone, probably get well into the 40MPG range then.

I find that I get as good gas mileage in the city as the highway. Does anyone know why this would be ?

Likely to be less of a foot on the gas pedal due to lower speeds and being able to coast when permitting . Then there's coasting to stop lights / signs . Make any sense ? . I now try to put the automatic in neutral at stops that are long enough . Keep eye in rear view mirror in case need to put it in gear , so not to take it in the rear .
