trini(the guy with 200+k on his Yaris) you need to beat his record, though in about X40X i mean 10-15 years Last edited by Yawesh; 10-03-2009 at 09:34 PM. |

Yup, wow!
"Being attentive to maintenance is one thing, but taking good care of your vehicle also means not abusing it from behind the wheel. Gordon said that he drives smoothly and carefully, but not extremely so. “Some people go out of their way to see how fast they can kill the car,” he said. “I see how long I can get a car to last.” The affect of this type of driving is undeniable. Gordon said that he typically gets about 100,000 miles between brake jobs and didn’t replace his first clutch until 450,000 miles. Both are wearable repair items that say more about his driving style than the vehicle’s reliability itself." Wow, indeed. I go through clutches a lot faster than that! |

And 60K a year isn't that unusual anymore. Plus, this guy has used his car for traveling throughout the country. |

??? My last post disappeared, I'll try again...
This guy goes to Montreal for lunch, Florida for the weekend. In short, he just drives. Volvos ain't cheap, but they do last awhile. My 245 is doing really well at ~200,000 miles, I expect to double that before corrosion finally eats the body. Even at that, I am considering converting it into a woodie wagon to replace the rusty bits. Ash and birch ply should do it.... |

i'd be happy if I get my yaris to 200,000. I kinda doubt it will happen though. I put around 18-19k on my car per year... so figure 11years. I'm over due for a collision... I mentioned that just 2 days ago and yesterday I nearly got smacked by an SUV that forgot to yield in a round-about.
I also would be tempted to trade this is at 150,000 if there was a similar toyota simply cause mine doesn't have the curtain airbags which make a HUGE difference in side impacts. I looked into the cost once... I believe it'd be over $500 to add them... a bit much to drop on a safety feature AFTER I already bought the car, and they come standard on the 09 & later models. Yeah... I might be in the market for a 2015 yaris hatchback. Maybe by then it'll be something other than gas powered. |

it really depends on your driving style.
one who drive 3miles one way to work, will NEVER put 500,000miles. Now, if you do more than 50000miles a year, you are likely put more mileage during the useful life of your car. trini is still on his original clutch at 350000mi, because he drives highway all the time. See, my brakes are done, and my clutch is on its way out. Pads were still good, but did brake on the entire surface. and my clutch is not slipping, but the pressure plate is not applying 100% of the force on it, yet, i'm only at 56000mi. Differing driving conditions, yields to different maintenance schedule. I'm always stuck in traffic, stop and go, with lots of shifts between 1st and 2nd gear... It literally sucks. |

I hope to get 200,000 miles out of my car... Will only take me bout 6-7 years to do that if I continue driving as much as I do now (26k commute just for work, prolly another 4k for errands/pleasure driving)...
