this is for steering wheel Airbag. Apparently this is common, lucky you found that as your steering wheel airbag is currently out of commision.

Here is a vid on it, Normally you just replace the cable but it can be the clock spring too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0tV4qs1Rf6w

On my 2007.
The Clock Spring was in a recall and one of the issues fixed at no cost to me.

You can search on toyota to see if your car needs recall work done. https://www.toyota.co.nz/owners/recall/

yeah we dont have that here, 2 concerns when importing it from canada to the US, both were emissions related, 1 was simply an obd2 test the other was a certified letter from toyota stating it complied with US federal emissions and safety standards

oh i know for FACT it does..wifes owned it since NEW....after the warrenty was up a dealer hasnt touched it since

which..if memory serves means clock spring, and both air bags right or was there more?...i know the seat rail issue was taken care of but was the last of the things done durring warranty

honestly if i could get a dealer to hand me the parts so i could do it myself it would have been done allready....i just have issues letting the stealership touch it

No it depends on if your car had the defective batch parts installed or not, my car did not so never had a recall.

During the height of the Takata fiasco, very little, if any, complaints about dealer work for either of the bag recalls.

On the bright side, the clock spring is a relatively easy and inexpensive replacement.
