Cutting in the rear deck to enhance subwoofer bass
Hi guys,
i have 12" Alpine with P400X1 Mono Block Rockford Fosgate amplifier, the subwoofer in a vented box in the trunk. -Yaris Sedan 07 - it sounds good and powerful, but as you know that the Yaris trunk's is well sealed !! and this prevent the bass to get into the Cabin !! so i need to get my bass from inside my trunk to the cabin area, someone told me to cut two holes in the rear deck beside the 6*9 speakers holes, and this will let the bass get into the Cabin !! he said that it will make a substantial difference !! would those holes worth it ? anyone done it before ? any idea about that ? any suggestions ? |

It would be better to make the trunk a subwoofer box itself by putting a speaker into the hole to be cut ;)

I wondered the same thing once.. I listened to it with the seats folded down to compare, but I didn't really hear a substantial difference. You could try that and decide whether its worth it to make the holes.

Remove 1 or both 6x9 rear speakers and test it! If you feel more bass comes out through the 6x9 openings then just open up the deck, there is a 2" or 2 1/2" hole right in the middle of the deck, that would be good enough. Also if you aim your woofer + vent towards the rear of the trunk, the Bass will increase. But you will have to play trail and error here too, and try a few different positions. And let us know how it goes! D.

Also beefing the rear deck to hold small woofers would be a little hard to do, but not impossible, and since he already has this 12" sub in a vented box, I would just test with different options like I wrote above. D.

I have the same car. Remove 6x9's.
No need to cut holes. Its not going to sound much louder. Do you have a type r ? Subwoofer. 600 watts Rms ? Dual 2or4 ohm coils. (Pray they're 4 ohm ) Options : Bigger box Bigger amp 2x12's on about 6-800 watts rms is where you'll want to be.
