Goodbye TRD Yaris

Just got word the TRD built Yaris that was featured at the 2007 SEMA show is going to the crusher. It was such a nice looking car, very tastefully done.

Crush it? Wha? Why not just sell it?
Such a shame, looks like a very nice car.

Likely pre-production, cant be sold. Most manufacturer test/program cars have a life span of 3 to 5 years before meeting that fate.

How about just giving it away or parting it out, then? What a waste.

Like Jason said, it's a law.

If it truly is preproduction, which a lot of those 2007 SEMA cars were, it may not have a VIN. Even cars before a certain VIN number are not considered road going, something about crash testing. I think it all comes down to money, the feds will want taxes for every imported car that hits the streets, and likely by crushing you avoid that and possibly have a write off.

You think that is sad, I am certain much more valuable stuff has hit the compactor.

Like this one off:

As far as SEMA goes, it looks a little well, underwhelming shall we say.

It looks functional, like something the dealers should have been actually selling.

Yeah the vehicle has to get crushed in order for Toyota to avoid paying taxes on the vehicle.

I know of a very custom VW Phaeton that hit the crusher a few years back.

Being from Detroit, you can see all kinds of prototypes and one offs at random scrap yards near the plants. You can't even take a single part off of the vehicle, the whole thing must be scrapped unfortunately. It has to do with legality, it's a vehicle that's not road worthy, doesn't belong in the U.S., etc. If someone got injured or killed because of the "illegal" parts or car, then the manufacturer will have hell to pay.

If I lose, winner takes my happy meal. But if I win, I take the burger and the toy. To some people, that's more important.

I heard about the dually tundra a few years back. Was some hype about it when I worked for lexus. Never saw anything, but I wasn't looking either, wasn't that interested.

The dually was a SEMA project, it made the rounds in 2007. Had an 8L diesel, 300hp 600tq. The word is it created some heartburn for someone at Toyota, because any time someone saw it in the warehouse it would bring up diesel talk. It got compacted. It was so bad @ss. http://www.pickuptrucks.com/html/aut...radually1.html

Another car going to the crusher this week:

One of my favorites, 1ZZ turbo powered, would have been an awesome car on the track.
