Fun With Plasti Dip

Well a few weeks ago my friend told me about some stuff called Plasti Dip so I bought a few cans of black and decided to mess around with it.

First I did the roof but it didn't come out the way I wanted it to because there is a specific way of spraying it to get it to come out even (which I did not know at the time) so I left on for a day then peeled it off...

Next I figured I'd spray the mirrors and personally I think they came out great. They blend perfectly with the black trim like it came that way from the factory.

About a week later I figured I'd give it a go on the hood which came out pretty decent but I just wasn't feeling it so I peeled that off as well

Then I got the bright idea to paint my wheels black....

A few days later one of my friends came over and was so impressed with how my wheels came out she had me paint the wheels and grill on her C300. Just wanted to share a pic cause I thought it came out pretty good.

Then a few days ago I got a crazy urge to try an matte my car with some blue plasti dip but for some reason each panel I sprayed came out a different shade so I rocked it for a couple days and then peeled that off as well...

I'm still not sure whether or not I like the wheels black and was curious to hear some of your opinions???

Plasti Dip is fun stuff, but I'd be careful peeling it off of the same panels too many times.

Like the mirrors. Like the roof. But don't care for the wheels, hood, or different blue. I don't really care for black wheels of any kind though. They look like steelies anywhere but up close.

I wonder...

A few years ago, a popular trick to protect the front end during long trips through the desert was to cover the front with blue masking tape, the easy-to-peel kind. I wonder if someone is going to use Plastidip for that purpose. Plastidip seems to be a popular toy lately in all the car forums I visit...

I did a double take on your first photo because your car is so clean (minus the blk roof) now your car is looking ghetto and dirty. Sorry but that's my opinion

My car "was" looking ghetto n dirty lol I've taken it all off except the mirrors. I was pretty much just experimenting with the stuff....I still might redo the wheels but I'm partial to the idea

Thank you for doing what I was going to do as soon as it got sunny and dry here. I've been dying to mess with that stuff. could you do a test for me? spray something, sharpie it, and then peel it off and tell me if the sharpie bleeds through? lol....

The wheels looked outstanding in SILVER! And, I liked the center caps and BBS locking nuts. Black? Nothing special at all.

seen this stuff on a few other forums and liked the results. THANKS for using the blue and letting me see its not what i want for my wheels as its too "BABY BLUE" for my taste. Ive only seen a handful of people pull off the plasti-dip roof so don't feel bad about it coming out rough. Wheels were OK plain BUT IMO needed some tire shine and the black just looks like every other car's wheels. keep the mirrors and ditch the rest....

I gotta agree! Had I not gotten black (which is a great color but it does have its "issues"), blazing blue or red would have been my next choices. Your car looks excellent without the black "highlights." I especially like the MicroImage grill (I've got one on the way! ) and the wheels really stand out ("pop" in modern parlé) as they are in silver, and I would not change them.

While it's always fun to experiment with such things as Plasti Dip, you gotta make sure you don't screw your car up in the process!

Cheers! M2

i plasti dipped my wheels last saturday, easy to use stuff, no priming necessary is wonderful to read.

I think the technique to get even coat and not rough is to spray wet and close :) The 12 in rule just doesnt cut it. Also being able to add touch up layers is nice, i probably sprayed too thin anyways, feels like half a can left after 4 wheels.

I plan to spray some more parts around the car just cuz its easier than laying down vinyl for a quick see and feel. The roof i think will have to be vinyled, dont think i can live with matte black roof.

i like the black wheels, but don't listen to me, i have green wheels. mirrors look good. roof would be better in a gloss. good stuff though. i also appreciate your experiments.

Hit it with the glossifier? Might not have been available when the OP did this.
