Can't find power steering reservoir on '10, is there one?
I've only had my Yaris for a few months now, 2010 4 door sedan. I noticed during my first "under the hood" checkpoint, that there was no power steering fluid area. The Owner's Manual had no picture either. I had read that the car uses Electric Power Steering. Is this true? If so, how would that work since I thought all cars need fluid to make Power Steering work. Thanks.

My 2007 is Electric Power Steering. So yours should be also.
When you first start the car. You may see an idiot light on the dashboard saying Power Steering. That is the steering ECU doing a self test. |

It uses an electric motor, which sits on top of the steering rack to give power assist to make steering lighter. There are no fluids to check. By going this route, the engine does not have a "power robbing" pump to drive and therefore drag down fuel mileage.
There is at least one new car coming out that is going to use and electric motor to drive the AC also! We'll see how that goes, I have reservations, since the high current demand of the AC motor will still put great load on the alternator to keep up. Interesting changes... |

Yep, I remember this was one of the sales pitches thrown at me when I was checking mine out. I okay with one less fluid to check.
