Weapon-R Header (4-2-1)
I exchange some e-mails with Leo from Weapon-R about the production of a 4-2-1 design Header for the Yaris. He heard about the not great results of the Megan header and he is interested in offering us an alternative for our cars.
Here's the thing... he needs a OEM header to work the design and the fitting of the new one. So is anyone of you guys who bought the Megan header, willing to offer the original unit to Weapon -R? (Weapon -R shop is located in the Bay Area.) This new header should be pretty close to the one they offer for the scion Xb, which showed important gains on the dyno runs. Come on guys... any volunteer? |

Doesn't Weapon-r need a whole car so they can test it when their done? I wouldn't buy a header that was just build to replace the origional but has never been tested. If I was nearby they could have mine for a week.

I agree, i had an Weapon R short ram intake for my old Echo before i went for the TRD CAI, the Instruction were chessy with poor photo, and doesnt even match the product, i had a hard time installed and was never installed properly due to the chessy product, i will never buy another Weapon R product again. Im not sure but I think Weapon R is an American Company that clan its from Japan. Button line is, Weapon R's are no good

They need the car to prove the header that's right. But once the header is done, that should be an easy task taking them no more that a couple of hours to do the dyno runs.
I had the chance to look a couple of WR headers for other cars and look great. If you are interested please contact Leo. Go into the WR website and there you can find his e-mail. |

WTF? I would suggest that none of you take your car in for a header fitting because according to Leo, they already have a header in production. I know because I already had my car in there for a header fitting and at the time, they said they had a "prototype". This "prototype" turned out to be nothing more than an xB header that they were hoping would just fit the Yaris. Of course it didn't fit so they supposedly fabbed a proper header and sent the part off to china or japan or wherever their parts are mass produced. So I don't know why they want your car. The header is supposed to be done some time in mid Feb. I talked to them as recently as 2 weeks ago and they confirmed this. If you take your car in there, they are most likely going to just try and fab other items for it, like a rear strut bar, or seat brackets, which is what was happening to mine when I went to pick it up from the "header fab". Or maybe they will bend your rocker panel because they don't know how to jack the car up properly. Anyway, I'm not saying their header isn't going to work, but I have heard good and bad things about Weapon since taking my car there. One thing, the intake works well, I have one. It is a shorter intake but not a shorty ram, more like a medium ram with the filter pointing down into the same place the CAIs go. It works, it makes good power. As to the business practices of Weapon, I really don't understand why they wouldn't just tell you strainght up why they want your car. Maybe their factory was unable to produce a bolt on header in the 4-2-1 format and they need to figure it out. Who knows. If you really want to find out, just ask Leo what happened with the last header fab on Randy's car. I was in there three times.

Here's what Leo told me...
From Leo Weapon R: leo.now@weapon-r.com "Great I will be working on a header here very shortly. If anyone wants to donate their stock header to me I will use that To build my jig, as of right now I need a stock header to make all the flanges and know where the tube placement can and cannot be. If we can square away a stock header we can build a header." |

...very odd. I'm not bad mouthing them. Just wondering what they are up to since I already had my car "jigged" for the header.
On a brighter note, I talked to a guy whom I sold some TRD shock absorbers to and he indicated that his company may develop a 4-2-1 header for the Yaris. I'll try to get some further info out of him as I'm not sure how serious he was. He did own a Yaris though and his company develops parts for the Lotus Elise. One of the parts they currently produce is a 4-2-1 header. |

Looking at the stock design, which is pretty good considering emmissions and packaging, I don't think a 4-1 bolt on header will really gain much of anything. I don't think losing mid range torque for 2-5 HP on the top end is worth it. I would be in for a 4-2-1 design. |
