how do I install a different headunit in 2006 yaris?
Hi there,
I own a 2006 toyota yaris and I'm looking for a way to install a better sound system. The stock headunit & speakers are absolutely terrible. I already removed the flimsy stock speakers and replaced them with 100w magnat ones. In my previous car they sounded pretty decent, but in the yaris they sound even worse than the stock ones. So I figured (and I probably could have predicted this one) that the headunit is not powerful enough for these speakers. Instead of using an external amp, I want to replace the headunit altogether. Too bad it's integrated with the dashboard. I've been able to find numerous ads for toyota yaris kits to install a standard single or double DIN headunit, but not for my dashboard :( I've included a picture of the current headunit: Can anybody tell me if there are parts available to install a standard single/double DIN headunit in this dashboard? Brands, model numbers and locations to buy them in Europe would all be very much appreciated :) |

Take a look at this thread for the details:
http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/sho...ght=radio+trim And, since you are in Europe, you can get the double DIN trim piece that doesn't require use of the Metra filler kit: Toyota part number: PZ489-B0330-00 (instead of 55405-52580-B0 listed above) |

alright, thanks a lot for the info!
There's just a few things I don't understand; The guy in the original thread also has a European Yaris, so why did he need the other part? What's a filler kit; are you referring to the Metra 95-8202 ? And what's different about this part so that I wouldn't need this filler kit? Would I still need the Metra 99-8216 if I want a single DIN radio installed? |

Correct, the Metra double DIN kit wouldn't be necessary with the above trim. For single DIN you would use the originally mentioned trim with the Metra 99-8216, or the above trim with a generic single DIN pocket. |

I could buy one of those eonon yaris dash integrated headunits for 250 euro. But I don't trust the brand. All I can find on eonon are negative reviews. The units seem to fail all the time and the sound quality is supposed to be terrible. So no eonon for me.
I'd rather have something more expensive with less features that works and sounds great, than something that looks a bit more fancy and flashy and annoys the hell out of me on a daily basis. @CTScott; I called a few Toyota dealers today... and I'm very confused... What exactly is part number 55405-52580-B0 and PZ489-B0330-00 ? Is this the entire grey center panel? Indicated as 55405B on the following picture: http://i372.photobucket.com/albums/o.../YarisDash.jpg ? The price for PZ489-B0330-00 is around 35 euro, the price for 55405-52580-B0 is around 100 euro. The Toyota dealers can't tell me what the PZ489-B0330-00 part is, and the price difference seems very suspicious. Is the PZ489-B0330-00 the 180mm wide one? Then how come it's only a third of the price of the other one ? Last edited by wouterw; 06-26-2009 at 11:10 AM. |

The 55405-52580-B0 part is the "stock" gray radio trim, pictured as the 55405B part in the diagram. It has a 200mm wide opening for the wider-than-DIN OEM head unit that comes on our liftbacks here in the US. PZ489-B0330-00 is the part that looks the same, but has a 180mm wide opening (standard DIN width). It is part of the Toyota TNS400 Navigation System. The price difference is interesting. When I arranged the group buy for the PZ part, I was amazed that the cost ended up being about $20 less (including shipping from Europe to the US, and then shipping from me to the people who participated in the group buy) than it would have cost us to buy the 55405 part from a dealer here in the US. |

Thank you for clearing that up! Very much appreciated.
I'll buy the cheaper 180mm wide part then. What about the height? I want to install a Kenwood DNX5220BT double DIN headunit. This headunit is 182mm wide and 112mm high; will this fit into my yaris when I use the PZ489-B0330-00 panel? |

Those measurements include the removable trim ring. You would either have to remove the trim ring or push the unit back a bit in the mounting brackets (which requires grinding down 6 bumps on the brackets). |

Am I correct saying PZ489-B0330-00 will not fit the sedan (hazard button in the middle)?

Correct. There is not an OEM equivalent 180mm trim piece for the sedan.
