MAF has nothing to do with air conditioning. Can you tell us what the codes are?

Pretty sure he meant 'cold air intake'.

I have a Blitz intake on from Japan and its fine.
What brand is your intake?

If you are referring to the installation of a CAI, then we are very sensitive to the diameter of the pipe at the MAF. Without searching I'm relying on memory here, 2.25" ID. Anything larger tends to throw MAF codes.

ill take a mic to the tubing, i wish i could say it was a top name brand but...its not...but lets face it, at the end of the day its still just aluminum tubing bent to fit the body

2.25 eh, thats a good usefull number, is that at the MAF or everywhere in general?

one last thing on the maf thats got me wondering...

with some of you guys doing a throttle body swap isnt the cold air restricting the TB if your limited to 2.25 on the filter side of the TB by the MAF?

Not really on a puny little engine like the 1NZ.

Years ago I put a Crown Vic P71 80mm MAF airbox and tube onto a 2003 Lincoln Town Car(70mm MAF) with a dyno tune and picked up like 15whp lol, mind you that was a 4.6L Mod motor, so.

having a p71 in the side yard for a friend that ive done a metric ton of work to mostly body work n mods..i know the swap your talking about...but the vics arnt restriced by the air intake tube or the maff tube, the real restriction is at the TB

and thats why i wondered about the cold air size vs the bigger TB in regards to the maf limit of 2.25

I could be way out in left field and asleep at my post but I believe we are dealing with volume and velocity metrics. The MAF is sensitive to volume of air which is impacted by tubing diameter. It doesn't care about changes in velocity which would be altered by TB restrictions.

well i swappe d the pipe and havnt had any codes pop up..so we shall see

a TB is on my todo list as i want to lose the 10% throttle dead spot at the bottom and the slow response

On the JDM market 3rd gens, they use the Lexus IS250/ISF gas pedal assembly(same part numbers) with an adapter bracket and that pedal assembly totally eliminates the annoying dead spot and makes the gas pedal even with the clutch and brake for easier heel toe downshifts.

All without having to fart around with getting the TB mod to play nice with the car.

I wouldn't recommend it if you're over 6ft tall though, you lose a bit of right leg room due to the gas pedal sitting higher than before.

that sounded GREAT ..untill you mentioned 6ft...im 6'4 and look like a giant in the yaris

is there any other way round the "dead space" throttle..it annoys both me an my wife ALOT.....makes me miss a cable

still its worth looking into i mean im a fabricator so i really just need something thats plug n play..fitment isnt as imporant as i can probably modify the OE parts crossed with the lexus unit....or...if theres any other unit that techincaly works but doesnt fit im all ears

Well, before I discovered about the adapter bracket and IS250 pedal, I wedged a couple of small pieces of granola box cardboard in there to pivot the pedal juuuust enough to eliminate the dead spot without making the car react, it made a world of difference.

I still hated how light the stock gas pedals are in these cars(my other vehicle is a manual F150) and the position made it difficult to heel-toe downshift, so I did some digging and thats when I came up with the IS250 gas pedal and Vitz RS adapter bracket combo.

https://www.yarisworld.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=56269

Check out this thread, this is where I got the idea of putting pieces of cardboard in the stock pedal to help eliminate the infuriating 1/4 inch dead spot on the stock pedal. I highly recommend it.

that is GREAT information...what i really need to do is hit up a wrecker and rip a pedal assy apart and see if i can "adjust" the pot in it or find another way of fixing it without spacing it...and at the same time see if the spring can be re-worked internaly

im totaly with you on the "light" pedal....EVERYTHING else i own is cable opperated and most of those are CARBS..which ive put even beefier springs on them..i like a semi heavy throttle partialy for feedback partly for my big feet

does the IS mod give it a stiffer heavy pedal?

Yes, its quite a bit stiffer. Not cable throttle stiff but its pretty close.
