brake light

Hi Yarisworlders. My brake light is coming on then going off. It'll come on for a little while, then go off for a little while. Has anyone else had this happen, and if so do you know what it could be? I have a 2009 manual. Thanks.

External brake light, or instrument cluster light?

If it’s the instrument cluster light you got a problem. How’s the level of brake fluid in the master cylinder? It gets very low as your front brake pads where you might need new front brake pads. Do you have a scan tool and are there any codes?

I forgot to mention I did have the brake fluid changed, as it never has been changed before to my knowledge. I hate to admit it, but I'm not sure what the difference is between the external brake light and instrument cluster light. The light that is on/off activated spells out "brake" and it's below the speedometer, if my memory serves me correctly. Thanks, guys.

Also, bronsin, it seems the brake fluid level appears to be stable.
I think I understand the difference between external and instrument cluster. It's not the external brake lights in the back of the car, but the "brakes" light in the instrument cluster.

bronsin, no. I unfortunately don't have a scan tool. I've made an appt. at the dealership this week. I hope it's not too much money.

Took it to the dealer and it turned out they didn't tighten something when they swapped the brake fluid, which led to a leak. They fixed it up for me and stopped the leakage. Glad it wasn't something expensive....

Well at least it’s fixed...and no accident resulted from the dealer induced leak...
