Midbass
Hi All,
I'm fairly new to this DIY car audio set up. while I was reading and watching some youtube videos, some say that we can install a midbass speakers for better sound. Can we replace our front speakers with a midbass speakers? and then replace our rear speakers with a 3 way 6x9? I'm talking about Yaris Sedan specs. TIA! |

Midbass
Put components up front. And replace the rear with 8" mid bass.
BUT, it really depends how you want your soundstage? Because you don't just install them. Actually, what's mid bass is the woofer part of a component speaker... |

because what I was planning to do is to have a 2way or 3 way speaker infront, then midbass at the back.
I saw one post on a different forum that if you already have a midbass at the back, there's no need for a subwoofer in your trunk, is that true? Will an 8" midbass fit the 6x9 speaker at the back for a yaris sedan 2008? My target is Sound Quality on the car. |

Yeah. I ran 8" in the back a whole ago and a set of components in the front.
You just need to cut out an extra 2" out of the 6" from the 6x9. You need a proper low pass filter though if your HU can't do it. I also suggest using an amp. |

can you suggest an HU that can do this? I am not really familiar with all the jargons of ICE.
If you can please share some light, What I am planning to have is get a 2way infront, midbass at the back (if that can replace a subwoofer in the trunk) anything else that I need to get (brands, hrtz? ohm? cables?) and need to know? I am doing a diy on the car by the way :) |

I'll think over that for you and get back to you. Lol I used an alpine 9855 back then. Now my setup is pretty much taken apart. I used to use a 8" woofer and filter it to 100hz and below. |

Heads up, the midbass in the rear deck won't truly replace a dedicated subwoofer.
As for source units...there are SO many out there now that are decent that I would recommend a qualifier to your question. How much are you planning to budget for the deck or the entire system? In my case, I gave my Sony XAV-701 to my wife to use in her Tacoma. I've got so many projects going on that I'm not sure when I'll have the time or money to get another source for my Yaris. When it happens, I'll be playing with the Parrot Asteroid. I had hands on time at an Electronics distributor open house earlier this year and this source was really REALLY smooth! I'm talking about it's overall operation and look as well. It's worth looking into, IMHO. I'd plug in a Bit One into the Parrot and then throw a three way back into my Yaris. I'm pretty experienced in this so that idea isn't hard at all...especially since I still have the modded pillars from my competition time with the Yaris. I have an interesting idea for the speakers and amplifier layout that I have NEVER seen anyone do just yet in thirty years of SQ competition... I digress, Illusion's idea about using 8" woofers is a good one for tonal accuracy. I doubled that, using two 8" woofers in a bigger sealed enclosure. When doing this by yourself, make sure to take your time! I can't stress this enough. Don't get into a hurry just because you want tunes. This will cause you to cut corners and become impatient.

Can you please post a pic of your subwoofer setup on the rear deck? I'm really interested on doing this setup:) What do you mean by filter it to 100hz and below? How do you do that? Any feedback with thwt kind of setup? Also, are you not getting any problems rattling any plastic on your rear deck when listening with those 8" subs? |

As SQComp stated... We don't do this in SQ competitions.
Running mid bass in the rear moves the sound stage front while keeping some bass for the rear. I'd say the bass is pretty good because of the trunk. Sorry no pics. I had since removed them and out back the 6x9 because my radio does not support low pass filtering and I had to remove my amp due to the lack of space in the trunk. There will be rattles. My rear deck is sound deadened, but other metal pieces in the trunk do vibrate. My setup was A/D/S 365cs component speakers, 8" woofers in the rear, a ppi a600/4 amp and the radio was an alpine 9855. |

how about this setup:
1. - 2 way speakers infront - 3 way speakers rear - underseat slim subwoofer with ampli Or 2. - 2 way infront - 6x9 speakers rear - underseat slim subwoofer with ampli |

I'd go for the second one.
Let us know how the underseat option goes.

If you go with a sub, i would go with a 6" coaxial in the rear.
I think most pre-built subs that can fit under the seat already come with an amp built-in. But, they are typically small subs, such as 6 and 8 inches.. |

will that coaxial be enough to cover the bass sounds?
the largest i've seen on a underseat sub was 10".. |

What do you mean cover the bass sound?
I find round speakers provide better sound quality than oval. The 6x9 will produce more bass than 6". But you will have a sub to make up the loss. |

What if you just start deadening the front doors, so the doors perform as a better speaker box!
After deadening the front doors with OEM speakers and HU the Bass was so much better. D.
