Got rear-ended!!!

The title says it all. I was at lunch last week with my Wife. We were stopped on a four-lane street waiting to make a left hand turn into a restaurant parking lot when, all of a sudden...BAM!!!

My Yaris was struck from behind by a 1997 Chrysler Town & Country van. The driver said that the brakes did not work...yeah right.

Doesn't look like much, but it's over $3,100 worth of damage.

It's hard to tell in the pic, but if you look at the quarter panel there is a buckle just below where the roofline goes up. The right rear of the car was pushed out 6mm and down 5mm according to the shop.

The bumper cover, the plastic bumper absorbers behind the bumper, the rear body panel, the trunk latch and some trunk trim will be replaced and the quarter panel and decklid repaired and painted.

My Wife and I suffered a bit of whiplash and, while getting better, are still a little stiff and sore. And, while the car is in the shop, a nasty door ding is being repaired at a cost of $365 to me. A big dent that chipped the paint to the primer. It will be like new in a week or so.

My rental is a Kia Rondo.
Like I said, only a week or so.

Marc

Broken Arrow (Tulsa) area. Been to Ponca many times as my grandparents lived in Winfield KS. Ponca was on the way there.

Aww man, I just went through all that, I so feel your pain! I got some serious damage on my passenger side that had to be replaced, and also decided to get some driver-side dings sorted also costing me about $350.

Hope you and your wife recovers well.

2nd one this week. At least this one's just a fender bender. Glad you're okay though

Glad to read that you and your wife are ok.

I've had few close accidents myself within this week. Seems like eight out of ten drivers are talking/playing with their cell phone or doing something else besides driving. What ever happen to just driving a car?

Too many people just "operate" their cars as opposed to "driving".
Cell phones in one hand means they can't even turn corners tightly enough in close quarters to stay on their own side of the road.
On the bright side, it's fun blowing your horn at them.

AH, my worst fear happened to you: getting rear ended when sitting at a stop light. Good thing you guys weren't injured!
