Subwoofer suggestion for liftback owners

I saw some people who install subwoofers into liftback and lost 50% to 100% of trunk space. But these suggestion may also be interesting for sedan owner who wan't loose any carrying space in the trunk!

I have two great subwoofers suggestions for people who want great bass response and who is concerned about trunk space. I test one of these products and the other one as been tested by one of my good friends.

Suggestion #1 : BLAUPUNKT ODw1000HP

This subwoofer is designed especialy to be installed in tailgates, rear decks, just about anywhere! You may even install it "free to air" (no need of a box) but it's still better to use sealled enclosure. My friend install one of these into a Mazda Miata (no trunk space), in a "free to air" setup and it play real nice. I had one of these two years ago and I like it very much. I use it into a real real small sealled enclosure (12in x 12in x 6in) and it play REALLY nice. This subwoofer play loud but really clear. For liftback owner, you may even consider to install in directly into the hatchback cover lid!! It's only 10" wide, so you can also install some 6.5" speakers on both side of the subwoofer. What a nice setup!!



Suggestion #2 : CLARION PFW1051

This is also a great product. I'm not sure about enclosure size required, but it's probably very small like the Blaupunkt. My friend test this product and it was very nice too. Just a little bigger mounting depth however.

That's a great suggestion too.

But the reason why I start that thread to talk about these Blaupunkt and Clarion models it's because they are specially designed for very small space like a hatchback trunk. I saw many audio setup in liftback on this site and maybe peoples aren't knowing that special subwoofers like that exist.

They aren't the most powerfull and best sounding subwoofers on the market, but they sound real good and they are the smallest subs for sure!

Try Bazooka tubes or something like that. I know someone posted in an earlier forum that theey had one in their car.

It sounds good but takes up a fair amount of space which is kind of annoying. For example, I always have to take my girl's car grocery shopping because a weeks worth of stuffs won't fit in with that dang tube!

If I had money I'd look at other options (above) but the tube works a'okay for now...

try the pioneer flat subs, I've heard a couple shops recommend them around here for tight spaces

lol...11 & 1/2" mounting depth, 18" square..not exactly for tight spaces...but that is a good price for a 18" solo X :)


but here is a real good one for you guys with the hatch, you can fit a 6.5" in your rear, correct?

throw one of those in each of the rear stock locations, and put a lowpass crossover on them, set at about 80 Hz. and get a nice set of components for the front, and ill bet you have a real nice setup :)

I have to subwoofer amplified of the Pioneer and it he is so small that he fits underneath of the bank of the front.
It has a command with phase and frenquência, volume control.
Subwoofer has 8" and has incorporated amplifier. Tem 200watts of maximum power.
Its price in new is of 175€







Also you have hipotese to take off the tire substitute and to place subwoofer there.

heck, shove in a 200w amp in one of the supposidly large cavities around the trunk area behind the panels, or under a seat, and you've got one stealthy setup.

But Pioneer carry some new low-profile subwoofers for 2006. I never try this product, but they seem to be great. Blaupunkt still carry the lower profile subwoofer with 2" mounting depth. Pionner is exactly the same size than Clarion.

Look like a great product! Size is not too bad... 14" W x 13-1/4" H x 14-7/8" D

I wonder if there is a 8" or 10" flat sub solution that would fit under the front seat? Maybe have the sub under one seat, and the amp under the other?
How much room is under the front seats?
You might have to remove the seat to get it in there, but once it is in, should be ok.
That would be great so that it doesn't take up space in the hatch, and it would be easier to wire. Space under the seats is completely unused.

I think youd only get away with an amp (1.5" - 2.5") under the seats, otherwise youll end up running into all the existing wiring and brackets and then forget about moving the seats (or forget and slide the seats into whatever you have under them... lol)

Carbon fiber/kevlar cone. 3000 watts peak. I'm going to put 600 RMS to this bad 10" and see what happens. They're supposed to be smooth like butter.
