Nice sub.
I put cheap Volfenhag 12's in my hatch, if that sub works at least as good as the ones I got (prob better) itll be one loud hatch. I notice the panel above the hatch on the exterior rattles with the subs going.

I put a Kenwood KSC-SW1 under the passenger seat. 6.5" woofer with a 6.5" passive radiator, 100-some watts claimed, variable crossover. I may add an amp and replacement speakers sometime.

I work with audio every day, and I am extremely critical about sound. Since I have no plans to put a reference-quality system in the Yaris, my needs were met - extending the clean low-end response of the existing system while removing some strain from the main amps and speakers. I didn't want to take up an inch of space in the liftback, and this thing fit fine.

Does the depth of this setup effect the operation of the passenger seat?

Reasons why not to get a Bazooka tube...
Single voice coil (booo)
200W RMS power handling (weak)
Size (huge enclosure for one 10)
Infinity basslink... same wattage, a little more money, but no need for an amp (I saw one of these in person at a Best Buy and almost left with it... they're awesome)

Reasons why to get one...
Cheap (as hell!)
Enclosure will lessen body vibration
Probably plenty of bass for a hatchback for MOST people

Umm... wow. That is going to be amazing. Fiberglass looks super clean when done really well.

Like I said, if you are serious about the bass, stay away. If you don't believe me and C.C. go listen to them for yourself. Get yourself a nice 10" with a strong amp and the dif will be incredible

Exactly why I bought/kept mine

But I understand what you guys/gals are saying. If you're an audiophile then the tube just ain't up to snuff.

Thanks for the info

Great setup DJ_Trizzak, but you still lost around 40% of entire your trunk space.

thanks - lols ya I know - I was going to get a custom/fiber glass 2 10" in the back seats near the speakers/cup holders - but it would cost alot of $ $ - so I decided to stick with a basic set up - but I might go with the custom fiber glass thing later on

Nothing sounds greater than a Big Box !! If you want great sound you don't care about the space you loose!!

The Kenwood? My passenger seat works perfectly after installing this - no problem.

---

And for those who question this or other compact subwoofers, no, this won't play 85 dB SPL at 20 Hz, but it allows my system to play a little deeper and a little cleaner - a great investment IMO. Same goes for Bazookas; they're not bad for the money or the space (round tube, square box, etc., has no effect on sound), but their limitations are from their driver and amp quality. When I can replace the door speakers, I expect that the mids and highs will be equally improved.

This is a very good suggestion for a hatchback (or any vehicle for that matter) that is tight on space, such as our beloved Yarii.

A set of high quality component reference speakers up front would emphasize bass, while a set of component speakers in the rear would balance the bass with appropriate mid and highs.

It's optional whether to use components both front and rear, but if you are after perfection, I say go for it

For me, I will begin with a pair of components up front and then experiment with 2/3-ways in the rear to determine if components should also sit in the rear.

Throw in a shallow mount subwoofer like the thread author has suggested, and you are good to go.

Oh yeah, don't forget to get a HU with at least 2 pre outs, PREFERABLY three pre outs.

ALL YOUR SPEAKERS SHOULD RUN ON AMP POWER!

I have always wondered if there wouldn't be room between the front two seats where the arm rest is, maybe throw in a slim profile 8 incher. Brace it up, maybe get a custom molding for it. I think one smaller sub, 8 or 10 inches would be more than enough for a car this size. Of course, power it with an amp.
