Aftermarket Stereo quits working sporadically

I am needing a little help with the install of an aftermarket stereo in my daughter's 2008 Yaris Hatchback. The install went fine and the JVC unit worked like a charm. Only problem is that after about 3 to 4 weeks, the unit will not turn on.

I then have to reopen everything, unplug the main connector from the back of the unit, replug the connector and the stereo will work again - for about the 3 to 4 weeks again.

This has got me totally baffled.....and the local Toyota dealer has no idea about the problem. Has anyone else come across this in their Yaris'???

Pat

Check the power connections and check the ground especially...

Make sure your battery terminals are tightened all the way down. (Under Hood )

Did you solder the connections or use connectors.
Recheck Red Yellow and Black connections.

If you kept the packaging to the radio take it back and get a new one. Most have 90 day or more warranties.

This is the strange part... all the connections are soldered and I also added an extra ground line to the back of the unit that is attached to the metal framework where the unit goes in. All the other dash items work fine as well.

I had the mechanic at our tire shop run tests on the battery and charging systems - everything came back fine.

Could be a faulty radio.

What it sounds like is the Radio is going into some sort of Protect mode that resets when you disconnect all power to it. Reason it doesnt reset when you turn car off is because of the Constant 12 Volts that holds your memory.

Give the Model Number and i'll look through the manual to see what type of protection circuit it has.

The stereo unit is a JVC KD-R530. My daughter's boyfriend installed a Dual stereo in her car about a year ago and the same thing was happening with that unit, so I pulled it out and put the OE stereo back in. The OE unit work without any problems. I checked with the local dealership and asked if there was a security system in the car or some sort of proprietary power system (like in my 07 Dakota - any stereo has to be "married" to the truck), but they said that they had never heard of anything like that.

So that leaves me scratching my head still - never had any problems with installing JVC (my preferred brand) stereos in any of my cars in the past. Strange!!!

I suppose you could source your power straight from the battery and another ign source bypassing the harness. How about the speakers, are they connected properly(+/-) at the head unit and at the speaker itself?
