2007 Yaris Headlights Not Working - Toyota Yaris Forums

Both headlights are not coming on. I believe the lights are okay and that its something else. I didn't want to take apart the front fender like you normally have to do when changing a headlight. I want to check the headlight without having to take it apart. Can I run a wire from the positive of the battery straight to the light? If so, which of the three prongs on the light would I attach it to? Also, is one of the other prongs on the light where I would need to attach the negative of the battery?

Yaris uses ground switching on the headlight bulbs (at least on the 3rd gen). There should be permament +12 volts already at the bulb common connection. See the attached image for the connections at the bulb and socket.

If you have a volt meter or test lamp, you can check for +12 volts at the socket. If it's there, the next step would be to,check the bulbs themselves,, then the fuses and relays,.

Thank you for this information. Its much appreciated. I don't think its the fuse anymore as sometimes the lights work and sometimes they don't. I'm thinking its the relay now.

It could also be the switch mechanism on the indicator stalk. Known common issue with the actual switches.

Do parkers work? Do low beams eventually come on if you left it for say 5, 10, 15min? What happens when you flash the high beams?

There may or may not be a relay.
The 2007 EWD shows four different setups.
One shows a H-LP/AMT relay. It is in the Engine Room Box #2. Left side of the engine compartment. Rectangular box with a few relays in it. Cover has a diagram of what each relay is. My 2007 does not use that relay. Only the other two normally in it.

Do you have Daylight Running lights?

I too have seen problems with the switches controlled by the indicator stalk.

As mentioned. The Left and Right headlight bulbs common terminal. Are fed battery 12 volts through a fuse. One for each each side.

To light the Low Beams a ground is connected to the Low Beam terminal of both headlight bulbs.

To light the High Beams a ground is connected to the High Beam terminal of both headlight bulbs.

There is no relay that controls the power to the headlights.
The relay I mentioned earlier is in the DRL circuit and looks like it would effect the Low Beams.

Thank you for providing more information. When I start the car, sometimes the headlights come on and sometimes they don't. Some times they come on a few minutes later and some times it takes even longer. Some times they come on for a few seconds and go off and not come again till maybe the next day. Its very frustrating. I can tell you the high beam will not work at all when the low beams don't come on. In fact, the high beam indicator light will not come on when the lights are not working. The left and right turn indicator lights always work either as turn signals or as hazards.

My bet is still the switch on the stalk. I wouldn't expect the blinkers not to work as the switch mech for those is totally seperate to the headlights.

I also bet your dash lighting doesn't come on either when the head lights aren't working.

I'm here to give an update and ask a question. The problem ended up being that both connectors to the headlight bulbs have worn out to the point that they look like they have melted a bit making for a poor connection. Has anyone ever changed this connector and if so, was it hard? Can the connectors be bought from Toyota and are they expensive?

You can get the headlight connectors much cheaper at an auto parts store. Just have them look up a connector for the bulb number (like a 9006 or h7). I'm not sure which bulb your yaris takes. Then strip back each wire and make the connections, you'll need a wire stripper & crimping tool. Check out some videos on that.
