Ph1 carpet worn out

I've got a 2002 t sport and the carpet is worn in several areas and now looks unsightly. Not sure what the previous owner(s) was/were doing but there are wrinkles in the centre tunnel, a hole on the side of the centre tunnel and generally it looks worn. A new carpet is really too pricey for the value of the car and in the interim i've used a sheet of black felt fabric to cover the worn parts. It stays in place with friction but its not really a permanent solution.
Welcome any suggestions. Thanks
