Okay, so I (finally) logged onto cars.com (also tried CarMax) and did a NATIONWIDE search; uh, I'm finding all kinds of cars I would like -- out the wazoo... So why are these dealers telling me they can only find what I DON'T want (too loaded and thus too expensive)? Unscrupulous!!! Am setting out to call them all, confirm specs, and see if they won't ship/trade.
Jeez, I guess if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself???

I experience the same problems you were having now two years ago. I built my 2007 Sedan online through toyota.com. Finding the car with the exact configuration I built took a lot of time and patients. After going to four different dealerships I finally found a reputable Toyota dealership that wanted to work with me in finding the exact car. It took one month and half until I got the car, but it was worth it. I got exactly what I had built on Toyota.com. I didn't even have to pay a mark-up or the sticker price either:smile:.

the "build your own" option is a joke. For example, "built my own" and I didnt want the $349 Vehicle Shield Package but Gulf States Toyota, my local distributor, puts this on all of their vehicles so I had no choice but to get that option. Also they had the side curtain airbags options for the 07s and 08s but you could not get one with that feature from GST.

The build your own option worked fine for me. The problem was finding dealership that was willing to locate the car I just built. After going to several dealerships I finally found a reputable Toyota dealer that would look for one. I built a red Sedan w/ the all weather and power package and that dealership found one. Sorry to hear the “Build Your Own” didn’t work out for you though.

Thats because you picked a common setup for a Yaris. If you wanted one with the side curtain airbags or the secruity system upgrade you would probably be out of luck. Just because they have options that are "available" doesnt mean that you can actually get them. Like I said on my 08 I wanted it without the Vehicle Shield package but all Yaris's in my area has it on them. I would have to go 3 or 4 states over if I wanted one without it.

Well, I spent the entire day on the phone and e-mail trying to get somewhere, and got nowhere... Apparently there's no such thing as "ordering" the Yaris you want with the features you want... They come complete with certain options and packages, that's dependent upon region, dealers *can't* trade between regions (supposedly), and even with those few dealers willing to personally deliver me one, the cost would end up being the same and I would be stuck with the same (unwanted) extras. I finally just gave up in exhaustion and ordered the ding-dang thing from my local dealer. They always beat you in the end. Now I'm trying to get happy about it, but I hate blowing all that $$$. This will be the last "new" new car I ever buy, but certain circumstances demand that I have a good, safe, and reliable car with minimal problems at this point in my life. Done!

Common or not the car I built online was the car I got.

First of all you are blaming dealers for information from cars.com. Sales happen everyday and pretty fast too..... the internet lags behind most dealers by up to a week.
You just need to use a telephone and start your own calling. Decide on if you want a 08 with incentives or an 08 without.
There is very very little profit margin in a yaris so do not anticipate a ton of moving on a price.
Sneaky dealers? You mean lazy customer's!

If you would have built it with side curtain airbags, you would not have got it.

How would you know what options I could get? You don't live anywhere close to my region.
I've seen them available w/ ABS and Side Airbags. Even the demo car I test drove had the ABS and Side Airbags. The option was there--I did not want to spend the extra $$$ on options for a commuter car. The wait time would have been long but if I wanted that option I could have gotten it though.

Guess your region has a lot of bad drivers to need the curtain side airbags. We cant get them in our region. Just like we cant get one without the Vehicle Shield Package.

Has ANYONE seen or heard of a truly base Yaris without the convenience package and/or all-weather guard package??? I don't believe such a thing exists, unless it's an '07... Hence, I think starting the "build your toyota" with a no-options/packages base with the price listed is a bit misleading; if "base" includes those two packages, they should say so, calling that the "base"... i don't know how many manhours I spent trying to track down something that doesn't exist and can't be ordered... Kind of crazy!

Here in Tx I think that it is impossible to get a Yaris with the all-weather guard package, but we do have the required Vehicle Shield Package!!

Our yaris is a base model vehicle. Meaning the comission for the vehicle is next to nothing. No one is really gona wana dealer trade for one since its not really worth thier time. The salesman that sells you the car will make a maximum of 100 dollars no matter what price he sells it to you for.
So thats why no one is usually willing to help. If you are lookinng for say a camry where there is a bigger profit margin you will find more people likely to help.
Only chance is to find a independently owned dealer who is working thier customer satisfaction edge and hoping when they sell you the car when you get that card in the mail you will give them 5 stars on everything.
