In a sea of power locks, windows, etc. - all the comforts you'd like in a new
car purchase, I was just curious to see who has purchased the "bare bones"
model and for how much?

It seems there are quite a few "basic" buyers because even Nissan is starting to
sell their Nissan Versas with no A/C, no radio, no power door, windows - under
$10,000! (Buying a car with no A/C is pretty extreme though)

bought mine here in oahu at toyota servco in mapunapuna for 12,500k out the door.

I have no radio, manual locks/windows, no rear windshield wiper, but all yaris's come with A/C no matter what.

I got my yaris for about $11,000 with no power, it did come with a radio and AC. I got use to it pretty quick I do at times wish i had power windows, the power locks i do not miss much.

They don't sell completely bare bones Yaris' in Minnesota, but I don't have power locks or power windows. Don't miss them either. Don't have the split fold down back seat but didn't care since I took it out the first week I owned the car. Came with basic 15" steel wheels but I replaced those too. Has a radio, rear wiper and the heavy duty starter (required in Minnesota). I knew I would replace stuff with aftermarket so less is more. Car was $13,800 including taxes (6.5%) and license fees.

I didn't do the power, but could NOT find one (even calling other parts of the country) without either the convenience package or all-weather guard package; in most cases, it came from the factory complete with BOTH. Ticks me, because I think that rear window wiper is the dumbest idea anyone ever had and I'll never in a million years own an iPod; also, resent paying for the same rear window defroster TWICE (once in each package).

Out-the-door for a new (no mileage) '08 for $14,700, so I'm not complaining; automatic and the color and trim I wanted. But could live without the MP3 player and floor mats.

Out-the-door price? Wow; you win! I assume you got away WITHOUT paying for a convenience or all-weather package; I understand it was possible to get a true BASE model back in 2007. Congrats; good job...

Maybe it's regional; I was told "no dice" here... Of course, I also waited until they had stopped MAKING the '08, sure I wanted an '09... Oh, well; maybe I'll get with the program and learn to use that MP3 player... What is it?????

I also noticed the interior colors are kind of wonky in the '08 LB??? Dunno about all that white plastic and the little blue dots in the fabric... ; / But, again, I'll learn to love it...

PETERPOOP

all white plastic interior? Where?

I hate the fabric (blue dots on black). I am planning on putting leather seat covers (from cali yaris) for the front seats then putting on different fabric for the door panels. I already took out my back seats so i won't need leather for those.

Yes; I'm not wild about the interior; it's a bit busy and not as "rich" looking as the '09. But I'm "richer" looking since I saved $1800 (less deposit for $1300) buying the '08; I'll learn to live with it; thank goodness the windows are dark.

Why is THIS, by the way; the spec sheet doesn't say "tinted"???

$14,500 OTD. 08 manual Red LB, 15” wheels, CD, fog lights and rear wiper. Didn’t want the fogs or wiper but I realized I had to take whatever was coming (allotment) into the Southeast area or do some waiting and possibly not get what I was looking for. So, made some concessions and have been very happy I did rather than chance not even getting a manual transmission model or having to pay more for an 09 with more options than that.

12,500 base...Has the rear wiper though. I get a kick out of the fact that they put an Ipod/MP3 jack in a car with no power locks... but dont feel bad anyone. A bare bones Smart car cost more than i paid for my yaris and doesnt have A/C or a RADIO!! the "loaded" version....leather seats cd player a/c is pushing 19 grand. For one MPG over a yaris.......hmmmmmmm

Pretty sure I paid $13,400 plus tax and liscense, but I got the Lojack tossed in for free cause the dealership is the only one I have ever done business with.

Love the bare bones model....so much less to go wrong down the road.

It's extremely hard to find a real base model (without at least the convenience package). I looked at hundreds of Yaris's before my purchase and none were base (which doesn't even have a radio). How can anyone possibly drive a car without a radio!?!?

From my observation, the two most commonly equipped models were automatic with convenience package, and auto with power package. These two seem to make up 90% of all Yaris's in dealer stock. The other 10% is made up of 5-speed combos and/or "S" packages.

Mine is an S sedan 5-speed with convenience pack. "S" models are all very rare. I have yet to ever see one at a dealer aside from the used one I bought.

$13734. out the door. Base LB grey with convenience pkg., cold weather pkg., floor mats and rear cargo mat, sales tax (6%), dealer documentation fee, and registration/plates. In CT. around the beginning of December. cash with no trade in. I probably could have dickered but wtf, it's just fine. Although the clutch and fly by wire throttle take a while to learn. Basically MSRP minus $1000 rebate and $350 discount. Mark S.

we got the '08 base liftback with manual last NOVEMBER for $10,650 . The window sticker was $12,850 . There was a $1000 dealer discount and and a $1,200 trade for a 2000 Chevy Prizm ( Corolla ) that had 90 thousand plus miles along with dents up drivers side from a deer collision . We were offered 0 dollars for the PRIZM before the accident by other TOYOTA dealers . So , we couldn't turn it down . The YARIS at that period of time was a slow mover , sure that helped too .

No "bare bones" here (have to get radio, a/c, convenience and all-weather guard packages and, oh yeah, $150 floor mats), but did get a new '08 automatic w/o the power package... $13,700 out the door including all tax and license...

my 2009 sedan was MSRP at 14,745 or something, but got it down to $13,000. this is without the power package, but it does have the convenience package and all weather package, which includes a radio and AC, full heater with defroster, 15" steel wheels, etc.

still $11,850 without the trade for a $12,850 5 speed base model with convenience package during a period of no TOYOTA incentives . Not all that bad . Like I said the PRIZM had large dents from a deer up drivers side and rust / holes on and in rocker panel where it meets the rear tire wells . Plus 7 years old and with 90,000 plus miles . So , $1,200 is reasonable . The car was bought used for $6,600 with 21,000 miles in mid 2003 after other persons insurance payed for the 2000 PRIZM since he had rear ended and totaled the '99 PRIZM before . I think we did fine .

Last , the '08 Liftback is paid in full 1 year later . So , we've saved over $1,000 in interest and got part of disability insurance for loan reimbursed for paying off early on a 5 year loan .

Here in socal I never saw an 08 base. They all at the least had the radio and AC. Now, I don't think I've seen an 09 that doesn't even have power windows and locks.
