I waited with bated breath for the "redesigned" 2009 Yaris and, now that it's here, for the life of me I can't see any difference between this and the 2008.
Can anyone else???

Yes. Different headlights, grille, taillights I think are different, new kit on the S model...

other than the spoiler and the lips of the sport version, nope. There is also the a very slight difference in the tailights and a small curvature on the headlights. But again, nothing big.

There are also little "bumperette" things at each corner rather than being smooth.

Based on a side by side comparison with my 09 and Sodium_duck's 08 we found the following:
Front and rear bumpers, headlights, taillights, hubcaps, seat fabric, dash lighting color, engine immobilizer standard, six airbags standard, vents, and HVAC control knob knurling and color. Oh yeah; an option for two more doors, one renamed color and a couple of new colors...
Maybe the sheetmetal, engine, and suspension guys were on strike during the grand redesign...

I think I remember the grills being different as well.
edit: oh yea, already stated.

That's a pretty complete list! But I meant just "surface appearance"; I'll look at my pics ('09 and '08) and see if I can pick out that body restyling (???)...
At any rate, although I can't identify exactly why, the '08 just looks cuter and maybe more "cartoonish"; the '09 is maybe a little "sportier" looking???

Aside from the differences Scott mentioned, there are absolutely no other differences. The car is structurally 100% the same, just those few minor design changes.
Same wheelbase, width, height, glass, etc. etc.
You're looking at it too hard.

I know what you mean. I am really toying with the idea of putting an 08 nose on my 09. The differences are small, but there is just something that I like better about the 08...

The rear of the '09 is a lot better looking, IMO. The taillights swoop in and flow better.

Identical. You cannot tell the last 3 ('06/07/08) model years in North America apart.

actually there is one difference between an 06/07 model year and an 08. All 08 in the USA has the TPMS.

True, but we are talking about styling differences here.

Ok, my 07 and my 08 has different "style" oil dipsticks. The one in my 07 is made out of yellow plastic and the one in my 08 is a regular metal one.

they also use a different fabric for the seats, the option for a sat ready radio, leather wrapped steering wheel and shift knob for the S models are a few more changes for the 09 models

About the first post, like the recessed top grill of the '09, but the '08 has that nice little "lip" at the bottom. Hard to decide which one looks better...
