In the happy event of me finding (or ordering at last resort) an "S" with side/curtain airbags, one of the many things I want to do to it aftermarket is a moonroof!! I read somewhere on this site that's not possible because of some beam? Also, if it is possible will it affect the head curtain airbags?? Thanks!!!

i belive the beam was on the liftback...and also think i remeber them saying it could be relocated,
havent droped my headliner, but couldnt imagin there being anything in the wa, maybe the domelight will need to be moved back a bit to make some room, but that is easy enough to do.
no it shouldnt have any effect on airbags.

so many of yall have liftbacks.. this question is in regards to 's' sedan, but should still be ok?

I had been told by the service department at the dealership that I purchased from that it is not advisable to put in an aftermarket moonroof due to structural twist and support...perchance they are talking about the beam? Not sure , but that is what they told me...then again this is a dealership and many times dealerships have been found lacking in the true knowledge department...especially with new product.

I can see where they got this from. because these are unitbody vehicles and removing large sections improperly can cause the metal to warp. so it is based on vague facts. and chassis straightening is not fun

it's not true, hooorrraayyy!! pricey though. inbuilt moonroof 1299 plus tax by #1 sun/moonroof installer in america, classicsofttrim.com
Damn skippy i'm gettin it

is that for a moterized unit, or just a pop up one?

the cheapest 1 is manual operation only which only tilts up, by hand. this is like 300-400
next 1 up is spoiler type, electronic but you can c the whole piece of glass 'sliding up and out on top of car', this is b/t 675-995
and the best one, inbuilt, the one i'm gettin, is just like a factory moonroof. the glass slides 'into' the roof. all quotes 1290 and up.

so that really isnt to bad of a price :) was thinking for just a poper, was a bit high, but to the guys cutting a hole in your roof, they dont really care how new a car is :)

Why pay 1300 when toyota does it for 1200.
Also i'd seen a black sedan once with a moonroof. (spoiler type)

i'll ask toyota if they do it; i didn't know. if it's 100 cheaper and factory of course i'd go with it. i'm not sure tho cuz classicsofttrim.com says they're the number 1 sunroof installer and dealerships use them.. maybe if they do, it's a special rate? thanks for notifying! i'm not into the spoiler type tho, i like the inbuilts

Your Toyota dealer probably uses a classic soft trim shop. They did for my leather seats. I was able to get the dealer to lower the price pretty easily.

def not true. My moonroof is getting installed this week. Should be done in a day or so. Toyota added the cost of my moon roof $1000 to my loan and took care of bringing it to the body shop for me. I have a white yaris sedan that I just got a month ago. I'll post a pic once I get it! I can't wait! :)

So, the moonroof can be installed in the sedan, but not the liftback?

Sweet!! Webasto makes sunroofs for Merc's. I worked at a plant that started the sunroof for the new Merc SUV's. Sweet set up's. They are definately worth the extra coin!

Nice. Why doesn't Toyota offer this as an option?

Toyota told me they would take care of it for me and add it to my loan but they would not be liable if something happened. But it's an inalfa and has a three years/36,000 mile warranty. The guy told me he has seen too many leak etc.....but no problems with mine! I love it!
i must say that looks very nice.
the dealer i bought from said they were doing it on another customer's car
i always heard non-factory moonroofs were a bad idea because of leaks but that looks like a high quality job.
