Stopped in and got an oil change yesterday on the Yaris at the dealership where I used to work. Spoke with the owner and things are SLOW and have been. They are backed up with Prius' Yaris' and every other car/truck/suv. I looked at a Venza which was real nice.

I was told that they are selling and making deals that were never done before. Since the economy is so bad the discounts the dealership has offered are nuts.

So, if you are in the market or know someone who is.....now is the time to buy when the dealership is hurting.

There is a dealership in Milwaukee, WI that, with the purchase of any new car, will include, FOR ONE DOLLAR, a used car in the deal up to a value of 10,000 dollars. All you pay for that car is tax, title and license.

BOB , what do you think we could get by trading in our 2008 5 speed liftback ( w/ convenience package , $12,850 ) for a 2009 4 door liftback ? The '08 has little over 14 ks and is in very good condition . The book value at K.B.B. and EDMUNDS averages at about $9,100 and there's the $1,000 TOYOTA rebate . What would the dealer discount be ? THANKS

January has typically been a good month to buy a car. This year especially. Probably a good time to buy a boat or RV also.

I know that on the dealer side of things they will make just about any deal to make things happen. Sad part of that is they have Yaris's sitting there now and if they purchased a used one on trade ...... they would have to make a good trade or they will lose twice in the deal. Heck give them a call :iono: you never know. Alderman's Toyota in Rutland VT

I'm going to hang on to mine for some time but I was tempted by a larger car.......

A dealer by me is offering buy one get one free. Here's the thing you have to buy a $30K-$40K vehicle (4Runner or Camry) for the first one you buy most expensive of course, then you get either a Corolla or Yaris for just about free all you have to pay for is the tax, tags. The second one can't cost more than $15,000. Not bad if you need 2 cars. I asked the salesman if anyone has bought any buy 1 get 1 free deals yet and he said 2 people in the last month have.

Thanks Bob , but we live in another state. We went to the dealer today and looked at a '09 Yaris automatic 2 door L.B. with the power package , keyless entry for $15,615. Dealer offered us $9,000 trade and total of $1,800 off the car (includes the $1,000 rebate). They had two 4 door L.B.s , but they were both BLACK and my other half is not sure about that color . They both had a M.S.R.P. of $16,095 and we could probably get a similiar deal. Do you think we can do any better ? Thanks

The fact is every dealer is starving (they will not admit it but they are) and have to make every deal possible. If they do not make a lowball deal some other dealer will and virtually never see you again.

When the dust settles in about 6 months or so...... whatever dealers are still in business will be strong as hell. Right now they are all at a weak moment.

This is mostly for new car deals but even a used car from a dealer might be good too.

I'm working on a deal and was wondering if anyone thinks I can do better. I've currently negotiated (without a lot of effort) a 5dr hatchback Yaris (MSRP 16,395) down to 14,005, which includes the 1000 Toyotathon cash back and 400 recent college graduate cash back. Should I try to get it down below 14000 or just be happy with what I've got? This is my first car deal (I currently drive a 1985 Toyota with 155K miles - I'm ready for an upgrade!!!). Thanks!

sounds reasonable . Get them to throw in mudguards , cabin air filter , and rear bumper protector ( installed free ) as well . Maybe you could get installation of mudguards and filter at no cost as well . GOODLUCK .
