I'm hearing rumors that the 09 Yaris 4dr hatch only comes with an automatic transmission:eek: If thats the case its going to disappear from my shortlist of potential replacement cars for my 01 Echo come spring.

In Canada, the 4dr Yaris HB is available with the automatic or 5 speed transmission.

Apparently that is true. I just used the Yaris builder on toyota.com - once I selected 5-door LB it forced me to either choose automatic or choose a different trim.

Yes, it's true in the US. I tried to get my Toyota dealer to explain why a M/T is available in other countries such as Canada. He didn't know. I asked him to call the regional distributor to find out if a M/T 5 door will be offered in the near future. He called and said it would not be offered for 2009 and that's all they know at this point. Waiting a year or more for something that may not even be coming, convinced me to go ahead with a 3 door hatch. I can't stand an automatic so the 5 door A/T was not an option. I had to have a hatchback so the 4 door sedan was not an option. The dealer suggested the Scion XD which is built on the same platform but I didn't like the stying inside or out at all. I'm enjoying my 3 door hatch but I really wanted the 5 door. Knowing that they exist and are available as close as Canada but not here really bothers me.

I don't know what the % is between the auto vs sticks, however when I got my Yaris in April of 2008 the dealers had 10 automatics for every manuel on the lot. It might not be worth it for Toyota to keep carrying both. Plus the auto was an $800 option which helps the bottom for Toyota.
