Hey from the new guy .

I need a car now but could prolong my purchase until much later this year but i just read a link posted here about a " idle stop function to improve gas mileage on the 2010 Yaris .

Can anyone of you Yaris people in the know explain how this might function in the real world ? I'm not certain i would like it .

I might just need to go ahead and buy a 2009 while they still idle , in a conventional manor

IMO everytime you have to re-start an engine, you're doing damage to the internals.

doesn't sound like a good idea to me...

(unless of course, the yaris will pre-oil the block before startup)

Thanks for the reply . It gave me something to google .

Your correct in that it does not shut down the engine . Just orients the engine when shutting it down and hot restart is almost instant .

I am going to buy a 2009 . Nothing for or against that technology but i am all for simplicity at the moment and it's one less thing to break

Well now i am a little bummed . I see now that the 1.8 motor is offered in other parts of the world .

Nothing wrong with the 1.5 but man , why couldn't Toyota offered a sportier model for N America ?

I am guessing thats what the Scion was marketed for so now , i have even more thinking to do .

To Yaris or not to Yaris :iono:

if you're considering the 1.8 i strongly suggest buying a Scion xD. you cannot beat it for the $$.. fully optioned out and about the same price you'd spend tacking parts onto your yaris.

This has always been my view on it.. iStop might not be as hard, but I think hypermilers are crazy turning their car off at stop lights..

You save $0.0000005 in gas and spend 20 cents on your starter and internals everytime you turn your car on and off.

I could be wrong, but I will continue to spend the fraction of a penny in gas at stop lights.
