View Full Version : Automatic Transmission Question

I have a question for those of you that have the auto transmission. When the engine is cold, I have noticed that the transmission doesn't want to shift into 4th gear unless I push the speed over 45. Once it has warmed up, it shifts around 36.

Anyone else have a similar situation?

Mine won't shift into 4th until the cool engine light goes off.

mine struggles too..... noisy.... but Im presuming that its a safety feature so you dont break something with running it when its cold?

No....that really isn't necessary. It burns more fuel an the car warms up faster in motion.

Don't worry and don't force the car to shift. It's part of the cars warming up process. It keeps the revs high to help the engine warm up faster then if it had low rpms.

Yeah, I was a little freaked out by it at first, but it's no big deal really. I let the car run for a minute or so before I take off and it warms up before I've gone a few blocks. Acts completely normal after that.

let it warm up i have been through 2 tranys in mine and on my 3rd one and i only have 56thousand on an 07

Sorry, but you must be unusually harsh on your transmissions to have gone through two of them in 56K miles. Your "Projekt Sreet Tunzers" may be an indication of that...

let it warm up i have been through 2 tranys in mine and on my 3rd one and i only have 56thousand on an 07

lol 3 trannies in 56k miles is probably from something OTHER than warm-up issues.

Yeah, just let the little thing warm up as you drive gently for a few minutes; don't force it. The automatic transmission is a brilliant piece of work... that performs exceptionally well.

well here in colorado we have tones of hills and it does not like the hills thats y so i stay away from going up and down the mountains sense my Projekt Sreet Tunzers was the deal "NOT" its just a car club i started with a bunch a buddies here in denver "DOUGH"

My Yaris warms up in less than a mile, granted I live in southcentral Texas and we've had a very mild winter (very few mornings have our temperatures been below freezing) but it really doesn't take very long for a Yaris to get warmed up.

And sorry, pst4life, anyone who has ruined two transmissions in such a short period has to be abusing the car. Were they both replaced under warranty? I would be surprised if they were.

The whole idea is to get the engine up to operating temperature quicker.

Nope. Designed to get the engine to optimum operating temps ASAP.

yes it was under warranty when they were done but now i have a bigger oil pan i am going to put on from B&M
