right now i have a white auto yaris about 15K miles... really considering of trading it in with a manual yaris with very low mileage...

but I predict that I will have to add $4000 cash on top of the trade in value of my yaris... and i will be loan free.

seeing the amount of money i loose makes me cringe a bit

i plan on going to autocross, and track days with my yaris... is manual really necessary??

15K is NOTHING!!! :laughabove: I'm laughing because my Yaris has close to 56K

The only thing I would suggest is to TEST DRIVE a manual transmission Yaris before you make up your mind. And there are a couple of threads where people have discussed the Yaris's manual transmission on this forum, only a couple of days ago.

I like my manual...but then, I've always preferred manual or AT.

Keep the auto, the loss on trading in your car would be a dumb decision. Buy the Suzuki Swift GTi in the other thread for $2200 and keep your Yaris for daily driving. That way when (not if, when) you wreck it, you'll still have a way to get around!

i have my GF's car to get around if i ever wreck my Yaris... i just want more fun per mile... that's why I'm even considering this

I used to own an impreza too with the yaris... I'm really missing its manual transmission, want to shift again so the next best (affordable thing) would be a manual Yaris.

will take a while to get used to it. the friction point is subtle and weird as fuck. but, it's fun. if you want manual, go for it. dont regret it later man

I'm a die hard fan of manuals but I think the money that you would lose in this deal would simply make it a very bad move.
Attempting to autocross in a stock Yaris is another move that you may want to reconsider unless there's a bone stock class in the competition. The last autocross I went to was very informal Saturday afternoon thing and even then they had 911's, M3's, Shelby Mustangs, a Ferrari, and all kinds of tricked out rice warriors.

+1

That's why I was saying test drive it first to be sure and check out the threads on that topic so you know what to expect.

look at it this way..

the yaris won't really be any slower at autoX with automatic transmission..

stick to auto lol. and remember your lesson for next time ;)

I have an Automatic and I test drove a 5 speed and to be honest very little difference acceleration wise and gas mileage with Automatic is 1 or 2 mpg less. I really like the 4 speed Automatic as it is well matched with engine.

There was a time that I thought that I would never own an automatic. Now I think that I will never own a stick.

Yeah, I had to let go of a 1996 VW Passat wagon that I owned for nearly ten years. I drove that thing all over Europe and shipped it back to the States. It had a lot of memories, we brought our second son home from the hospital in it. I have to admit I cried when I left it at the dealership, and it took a while for me to get over trading it in; but in the end I have grown to love my Yaris even more and I still have fond memories of a great car and a chance to make more with another great one...

I just got rid of my civic si (manual, of course) and having an AT has been "interesting". I still find myself having the shifting reflexes. lol But, it's nice since I commute a lot on southern California parking lots...err...freeways. lol

Always enjoyed driving a standard in different cars, but the yaris seems to be a tad different. On the open road, the car is great.

But do you just have to get used to the throttle/ clutch set up on these?

Been driving for a long time, but now I feel like a kid with his learners.
Hmmm! How many times will I stall going to work today
