Side Airbags??

Is there anyone here who purchased their yaris with the optional side/curtain airbags?? i understand that certain option packages are available only in certain areas, but dont you think side airbags should be available everywhere!?! they seem to be unavailable here in SoCal, which is quite literally the SUV capital of the world (i dont understand why 100-lb girls need to drive 5000-lb vehicles, that's LA for ya!!?!). when one of these steel beasts hits my wife during her commute, i'd sure appreciate it if side/curtain airbags were there to protect her cute little skull. maybe i need to go to the bay area to get that option...

I have the side airbags and I think dealers telling people that certain options are not available in certain areas is just a bunch of bull. I find it hard to believe that toyota has taken the time to sit down and divide up the US and say that this certain city/area doesn't get cold enough so were not going to sell a cold weather package Yaris in this city. Thats absurd (sp?). Same with the side airbags. Is certain areas of the US less likely to have side impact accidents then others? I dont think so... You can order anything you want, thats why you order them. If a dealer tells you otherwise then its because they do not stock Yarii with that option so he is trying to get you to buy something else because he doesnt want to wait 2 months to make $500 on your Yaris. My 2 cents.

Dealer said I'd have to wait upwards of 3 months to get a factory ordered model with all the airbags.

Side Airbags are only option I wanted, and didn't, get on my 5 Speed Liftback w/ PP so I was wondering is there any way to have them installed?

I'd feel a lot safer rocketing down 95 if I could get these...

I got the side curtain airbags, didn't even knot it had it :D
I was just looking for a Yaris with Auto and Power package, it just happen to have them also. fogs too. Personally I would have rather had the rims over the airbags.

Based on demo Dealer put on at New Owners Night, I hope all six never deploy. The noise would be deafening!

it looks like people in the east/southeast get them included in their power packages. unfortunately, us west coasters get no side airbags but keyless entry, which is ridiculous on a two door liftback!!! i can understand keyless entry on four doors, but on TWO! toyota has overestimated the laziness of us californians. but sadly, not by much though...

How many airbags are there. In my hatch there are 2 in the dash front, 2 in the a pillar front, 2 side seat and 2 rear curtian. Is this correct I count 8 ?

i believe they count the front pillar and rear curtain as 1 side curtain airbag. therefore, you get the 2 front, 2 side curtain, and 2 side of the seat airbags, totaling 6. the only other airbags i know of are the knee airbags below the steering column, and few cars have those.

Just went out and counted:

There are EIGHT (8) places where airbags emerge from on our Yaris, and I notice that 6 optional ones were listed on the window sticker - the ones in the dash and steering wheel being 'standard' equipment.

Interestingly enough, this is the exact same airbag configuration as in our 2006 4Runner Sport!

Umm... yeah. I've been hit before and those airbags saved me, so because I insisted on side and curtain airbags, I had to cancel my order and get my deposit back from my TX dealer, who was bs'n; my region is just not getting anything except for a few w/ like, no options.

SO, I went on autotrader.com, did a search, and under "distance", I chose within any distance, and under price, I chose $17, 500 and up, and a few results come back. When I looked at the results, I went directly to the dealership's website to search that Yaris in their inventory, and looked at the options. Sure enough, they all had side/curtains!!!! Called 4 dealerships, 2 were special orders, one was sold, and long story short I went out of my way to make sure I got that last one.

Flew to Arizona, spent night, and just got back to Houston after 17 hr drive.. with speeding ticket and a big ass windshield crack from a semi flicking a rock..... I'm too tired to share my Yaris right now but I got my frickin side airbags!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck!

congratulations on getting what you wanted! wow. im not sure if we have your determination to get what we want. we'd be willing to drive a few hours, BUT 17!! but i agree, it shouldnt be this difficult to get a car with the side airbag option in this day and age. if toyota doesnt rectify this by 2007, my family may have an odyssey/fit combo instead of a sienna/yaris one.

Actually Canadian version of yaris sedan has a package D and F has the option of come with Side/Sidecurtain airbags. Too Bad the 4 door Hatchback LE and RS has no such option.
