I believe the shop manual shows how to release the pins from the connector - but I may be wrong. That would beat cutting the wires.
Just another thought, the connector on the body side molex is Female, so it might be easier to just push out.

Ok got another method for you.
If you have a Female Molex Remover, then all the power to you. All you do is put it around the female molex from the body side from the top, push the pins down, and then gently pull the wire while pushing it from the top.
For those of us without an electronics arsenal, a sewing needle pin and patience will work. Same idea here. Just push the clips down enough so you remove the terminal + wire from the molex. After it's removed, pull the clips out a little so that when you push them into your new molex connector, they will snap in place.
Hmm a little confuse.. maybe someone with a DIY writeup would be excellent :D

AHH here we go.
1) Disconnect negative battery terminal
2) Remove stock tail light assembly
3) Disconnect stock light plug from body side plug (the plastic plugs that snap together are known as the molex)
4) From the BODY side, disconnect each Female Molex Pin.
There is a total of 6 pins, and you will need to "map out" which wire matches up with the OPERATIONAL function of the each wire on the JDM tail light. Take a close look at the transplant page at http://www.k4.dion.ne.jp/~vitz/RStail.htm# to determine this.
The female molex pins look like slits. You can use a Female Molex Pin Removal Tool if you have one that works with pins this small, or you can use a sewing needle, flat head microscrewdriver, or some other tool that is thin enough (and sturdy enough) to push down the clips that lock each pin it its original molex.
5) After you have removed all female molex pins from the original molex connector, fix each molex pin by pulling the clips back out a bit so that it can lock in place.
6) Connect each female molex pin into the JDM connector for the tail lights following the "map" from the transplant page. This is very important, do not mix up where your wires should go. Refer to the transplant page and double check that the body side wire matches the corresponding function the JDM light side wires are intended for.
7) Each female molex pin should snap into your JDM connector and be secure.
8) Connect your new body side molex (plug) into the JDM tail light molex (plug)
9) Reinstall your tail light, reconnect negative battery terminal, and give it a go!
It sounds complicated, but it is real easy. Hyde wasn't lying.
The most painful part is removing the female molex pin connectors from the body side molex (plug). It takes about 5 minutes per pin if you don't have the proper tools.
A hair clip (those tiny black ones) will do the job of removing the pin from the connector!
Your wife/gf/whatever should have one. :)
So all the harness, bulbs and connectors are in the package ready to go? Just have to reconnect them? That sounds easy!! Waiting for some pics!

Yes, all the bulbs are in place. It's basically plug and play after dealing with the pin/molex issue.

I would install mine tonight, like right now, if I had BOTH assemblies here.
But for some weird reason I only received the left side, and the right one is still being held by my best friends at Canada Customs.
So is connector that came with the tails the one that we order for $15?

But for us getting the RS LED tail, we don't have to replace the pins right? Just have to take it out and plug into the new connector?

Correct
As long as you don't damage the pins during removal from the original molex, they can be reused for the new molex (connector).

Ok guys, I didn't have the proper tool to remove the female molex pins. I tried to use screwdrivers, needles, hair pins, anything flat and solid but I couldn't get them out.
So I couldn't install the light today.
I will have to delay the half ass installation for a few days.

Word of caution regarding molex extractors/removal tools:
- Make sure the tool you purchase can remove SMALL pins
- Standard molex extractors for computer molexes will not work because the pin inside the Yaris molex is too small
- The molex extractor must be able to fit over the female pin entirely so that it can push the clips down
I think I'm going to destroy the stock molex plug with a razor blade and knife and extract them the sloppy way.
Updates to follow...
Alright I am going to try installing tomorrow too

Dude, try a paperclip, works best for me on computer molex plugs, you should be able to squeeze it between the plastic and the pin, and shove the tab down.

All right, I'll give it another go tomorrow.
Computer molex plugs are easy to pop since they're bigger.
Since this one is smaller, it's a pain in the ass...

Are they still with Canada Post, or have they been transferred to Customs?
I was told that it takes anywhere from 1-5 business days for Canada Customs to process inbound mail that is commercial in nature.

Tips for removal of female molex pins from stock molex plug (body side):
- Look for the side that has a panel that locks together using offset teeth ** Thanks echo_hrs for making note of this "panel" that can be lifted off
- Pry this off with a flat head, micro screwdriver works best
- Use the flat head to pull up the plastic tab that holds the pin in place, and pull gently at the same time
- Repat for all 5 wires
Patiently waiting for the right side.
Yes I know it looks a little stupid, but I'm cool that way.

Alright, where to begin.....
First of all, a BIG HUGE THANK YOU to TERUYUME!!!!!   For coming out late at night to set the record for tail lamp install at under 20 minutes!!! Check the second picture for the now totally destroyed stock connectors... (kinda blurry)
One thing I have to say is that I never really knew how good they would really look until they were installed.... they are amazing.... makes the car so much nicer.... you'll see in the small details with how the lines of the car finish off in the rear... and how the LEDs just give the car a much sportier and elegant look...
For those who are still waiting on their orders, please let me know if you don't receive by next week. I know that some of you have been experiencing delays, and I apologize for this, however its in the hands of customs.... so please be patient.....
As soon as everyone receives there lights and bulbs/bulbholders/wiringharnesses (Violin), we can officially shut down this thread.. In the meantime.. enjoy the pics.. and I can't wait to see more pics of installed lights as they're completed.
PS There's no shame in checking out the ass of another Yaris when it has JDM Tails... it's mesmerizing....

You don't need to remove much to take the lights out. There's a small plastic cover with vent inside the trunk on both side. Take it off and you'll see the taillight from inside. There are two bolts and one snap pin holding the taillight in place. Unscrew the two nuts, and give the light a hard pull, then it'll come off. Have fun!

What are the bulb sizes for the Turn Signal and Backup Light?
Are they 7507A and 7507?
Same spec as the regular tail light?

No difference. Those are the same lights.
You have to add shipping and 'surcharge' to arrive at the total price. japanparts.com adds a surcharge to offset PayPal or credit card company charges.
They are however a very good supplier with a ton of cool stuff for our cars.

Many thanks to riceboy for organizing this group buy.
You guys have no idea what went on below the surface for him to get the missing parts for my tails. It’s easy to come out looking good when everything goes as planned. Here something completely unexpected cropped up and he made numerous calls/emails on my behalf. I’m glad I wasn’t the one dealing directly with the supplier because of the language barrier.
It wasn’t easy sending a good chunk of money off to a stranger but I wouldn’t have any second thoughts about participating in any further group buys that riceboy organizes.

I'm thinking I'll take mine to a private garage when the time comes. Maybe I'll slap on a couple of stick-on reflectors for the day. I won't be able to get through the state inspection with the front window tints anyway.

I like tastefully smoked lights on darker cars, say gunmetal silver/grey, black, dark blues.

Well i dont really know if thats a good idea to paint the inside black cuz your taillight housing has a red tint right? And its not like this hey?

Cuz that one has the clear plastic thing and its not red. So if u had them i would say go for it ;)

OK well the plastic is tinted red, except for two circles over the lights, which are clear. So painting the insides would still have a red tint through the plastic... Damn, if only I had an extra pair of these just to try it out

come on.. where's your sense of humor? im just fuckin with ya.
as for the steak comment. very original. bravo. i have heard that shit for the past 12 years... you gotta come up with something better than that to get me to laugh.
as for the amp/sub, i put it in the CLASSIFIEDS. thats what CLASSIFIEDS are for. im not trying to rip anyone off. there is this thing called economics. maybe you will learn about it in high school. anyways. if someone wants it, then it will sell, if i am asking too much, then it will either sit there, or i reduce my price (which i did). obviously my starting price was too high.. .but thats certainly not 'trying to rip anyone off'... i honestly thought it would sell for that.
as for the lights, they're cool. but no way in hell i would pay that much money for them. to each their own. you would probably think im crazy for how much i spend on my bicycles..
Whens the last time you got some ass riding on a bike,Id rather spend money on my car,and I woulda got in on this GB,but it wasnt for the sedan.

You're about a month late with this post as all of us have received our JDM tail lights and have installed them as well
Installing the tail lights doesn't require a rewire.
Along with the tail lights we received a JDM chassis side molex connector which we used to connect the vehicle chassis wires to the tail lights. The only modification was the removal of the wires from the original molex plug and subsequently connecting the vehicle chassis wires to the JDM molex.
Don't know how you "rewired" your wires, might want to have a look at the JDM Tail Light transplant page (search this thread).
As for the problem you experience with the backup/signal lamp, I have not encountered this problem at all. My signal lights do not turn on or flash when I go into reverse. This is with a manual transmission.
The lights function normally as intended, and none of us have reported any problems. :w00t:

This is the page big2sky is referring to: http://www.k4.dion.ne.jp/~vitz/RStail.htm
Make sure you have the body side plug, which also shown on the bottom of the page, then swap the plug and connect the wires in proper order, plug into the LED, then there you go!
Have the LED installed for about a month and no problem at all. Got my neighbor to verify the lights for me when he was passing by, all lights working fine.
Even if you don't have the JDM plug, you can just put all the wires out from the old one, then plug the wires directly to the LED. They shouldn't come out easy even without the plug. I assume you just have some wrong connection so your lights are screwed up.
Let us know how it goes!

No refelctors. The reflectors are built into the bumper of the JDM RS (and EDM TS)... just like the pic in your sig. So with our bumper, to be perfectly legal here, retroreflectors should be stuck onto the car. :barf:

Hmm... by looking at the fuzzy image of the rear part number, it is hard to believe that the rear one has the same part number as the front one.
Violin, are you sure both set are the same? (I know the wire set for USDM o/e pair has different part numbers...)
I just got my JDM tail light set but it does not come those wires+sockets... I am glad I actually can see your picture of the wires.
Please let me know, thanks again!

Sorry I don't still have the empty packages after 8 months so I can take another picture for you. http://nikeardilla.rileks.com/images/emoticons/aaa_TheFinger.gif I posted that photo so people could use it for reference.
The cords are the same. I even went out to my car and popped the access covers off to take a look. The numbers on them are the same on both sides.

I promise to post pics soon; I got my tails and everyone who has them is right, they are nicer in person. I can't believe how nice they look.
I think I'm the first BAyou Blue to get them.
