Hi,

I'm planning on getting a 2007 Yaris Sedan with the Aero 2 Package and air conditioning. I'm up in Canada so i'm not sure what the equivalent US package is. I plan on keeping this car for at least 6-7 years and I drive about 15000km max per year. Do you think it's worth it for me to get the extended warranty (ECP) ? If so, which should I look at?

down here were get 3/36K (miles) for the car and i think 5/60K for the powertrain. if you're going to keep it that long but only drive it that little, i'd be on the fence about it to! can you purchase extended warranties after the fact in Canada? (I know you can here, but i was too young to know that kind of thing when i was in canada - moved to the US in 2000, i'm 28). If toyotas are as reliable as my hondas have been, I'd skip it and if anything, put that money away for a rainy day when you *might* need to have work done.

personally i would not get one. first, it does not cover normal wear and tear maintenance and parts. second, as long as u take good care of your car, follow proper maintenance and get it serviced regularly u should not have any major problems.

You should be able to purchase a warranty extention before the manufacturers warranty expires.. I would wait.. at the rate you're driving you'll be at 90,000-105,000 km's.... with the combo of Toyota reliability and quality it should be fine.. not to mention that you'll only be "in the open" for 1-2 yrs...

If you can get one at a good price. I'd get one.

I got a powertrain platinum, w/gap ins, and the lojack system for the price of the lojack alone... When I walked in, I was like I don't want any extended plan!!!

It's like buying the lojack, and getting the warranty for free... Funny enough they wanted 2,000 for it... I almost walked out until it was brought down to 800... I negotiated, and it worked out.

Good Luck

It isn't a Chevy. Its a Toyota... just like Honda, cheap to fix. Chances of something going awry in the first 60k miles are slim to none... personally I wouldn't worry about the warranty.

Sweet. That's kind of what I was leaning towards. I'm not much of an aggressive driver and this will be my first new car so it's going to be babied. Should last me a while that way.

No it's not worth it for the extended warranty

15000km over 6 years is less then 100,000km
you won't have any problems before 100,000km on just about any car let alone a Toyota.
I know several people that have 300,000KM + on there Toyota's and have needed nothing but CV boots and brakes, filters etc. Basically just maintanance stuff warranty does not usually cover anyway.

True, but I see it as Buy lojack, get the platinum warranty for free....

My payments still rock!

Just more silly reasons to have an extended warranty in that thread. Now an Armada is a whole different story....

NEVER... NEVER... NEVER... pay for an extended warranty on a car! In particular on a Toyota! Don't be a fool... a car begin to need maintenance and minor repair at 100,000 KM. If you drive 15,000 KM a year, you'll do 6.6 years before reaching that point on your car. So, why the hell are you needing an exented warranty if you plan to keep your car 6 or 7 years?

Trust me, I actually have a 2002 Echo with 108,000 KM so I'm probably the best person to answer your question because the Echo and Yaris share exactly the same mechanical. I NEVER put A CENT on the Echo before 100,000 KM! NOTHING... NADA... NONE!

At 100,000 KM I just do the regular maintenance, I replace sparks plugs, I replace all filters (fuel, air, cabin) and all fluids (coolant, tranny, engine) and recently I replace the front brakes (pads/rotors). That's it! Bingo! How much did I put on the Echo at this time? 300$! So why to pay 1200$+ on an extended warranty?

The only real "repair" I do on the Echo is to replace an ignition coil at 75,000 KM, just a bad luck (part get loose and get water/humidity intrusion) who cost me how much? 50$! Just take me TWO minutes to replace the coil by myself in my driveway! :)

So PLEASE... please!! Stay away of the extended warranty. Keep your cash for maintenance, winter tires, ect!!

I have it in writing, if I never file a warranty claim, the complete total cost of the extended, goes back to me.

Toyota's basic warranty won't last me to long.... I use the car ONLY to commute to work, which is only 13 days a month, and so far Im at almost 6,000 miles in 2 1/2 months.

The extended for me, was just added insurance (peace of mind), as the 100,000 will come before the 6 years in my case.

For my last truck I payed 3800 for the extended warranty because it was used with low miles but I had no idea how hard it was driven.

That turned out to be the biggest waist of $$$ ever. The most my repairs would have been in that time would have been well under $800 altogether.
I sold the truck with 180,000km and only the U joints, diff cover and oil cooler lines needed replacing in that amount of mileage.

While I'm clear why you didn't, my experience and time in Las Vegas have convinced me.... no warranty is not gambling with Toyota to date....
