HUGE thanks to Joe (Black Yaris), Ryan and Paco from Doug's Tranz South, Mark, and Joe's wife for not killing him.
Installed, running, working... all is well.
As of right this second this is ZPI's turbo kit. As of this weekend that begins changing. Step one: replace the exhaust.
Impressions:
[1] Boost kicks at 3000 RPM. It is extremely easy to drive the car without touching the boost.
[2] In daily driving situations the car is dreamy. Acceleration is really smooth.
[3] The turbo kicks like a donkey. 14b is a good candidate.
[4] The car would wildly benefit from the following: LSD, beefy axles, internals and a tune. At 225+ WHP on slicks it would be an absolute riot.
[5] Cruises at 70 MPH @ 3100 RPM, just when the turbo kicks in. The setup is perfect for the freeway. Gives you that extra passing oomph.
[6] Ran pretty awful on 87. Much better on Sunoco 94. I'll be using Shell 93 from now on probably.
[7] This is no longer a snow-worthy car. I have 6 months to find a beater.
Pics in 20 minutes. There aren't many.

On the drive back, selling it crossed my mind once. This car belongs down south. Maybe I'll go and take it with me.

Really ??? I see them go all day long on craigslist/ebay for around 100 , you can rebuild it yourself for about $50 in parts or have a shop do it for about 250 . Just look for a stock 1g(89-94) eclipse turbo.

No. I'll be contacting Perfect Power in hopes of hearing that they think they can tune it, and then hopefully I can ditch the Emanage. (and the CEL) If not, I'll just get it retuned the way it is.

I did almost none of the work. I can do little piddly installs but this one was way over my head. Black Yaris did most of the work. Paco @ Doug's Tranz wired the piggyback, and Ryan made sure we didn't blow anything up.
The kit is a bolt on that ZPI was selling a while back. As far as I know two or three were sold. One was damaged in an accident, so this is one of only one or two left. It is a bolt on kit and the piggyback was already tuned since it came from a donor Yaris c/o Spkrman. A few little things have to be moved or removed, but for the most part it basically bolts right in.

Patience, Long. Jeez. Just because I don't have dyno charts yet doesn't mean I can't talk about the fact that there is a 14b strapped to my motor. I promise its there.
Stock fuel pump, tC injectors, plugs 1 step colder. Running fine at low RPM. High RPM I'm running quite rich. I need an exhaust and a tune now... no, yesterday. I'm staying out of boost until I get both.
I know I promised pics yesterday but we were too busy going over the car. Didn't have time to run home and get the camera, but no worries... tonight we're going to the Forced 4's meetup @ Quaker Steak and Lube in Independence. 25 boosted Subys and one lonely Yaris. I'll bring my camera to that.

Buschur doesn't deal with the E-manage. They specialize in the Apexi S-AFC. I could use their dyno and self tune, but I'm not nearly that 1337.
Ah, that's lame. Well I tried.
You might be able to call Summit and just ask them if they have a listing of dyno/tune shops.

how do you know you're running rich?
He went from 190cc injectors to 370cc injector. His car & your if you still have the TC injectors have to be running rich. Also for everyone's infomation, you cannot put more than 20% larger injectors without tunning. The 370's are 50% more, that too much.

04-09-2009, 05:58 PM
So if your going to eliminate the CEL, don't you have to (1) put the missing O2 sensor back, and (2) put the MAF where it's supposed to be (as in after the filter but before the turbo)? I'm just trying to think back to how the ZPI kit was built... Isn't the MAF in it's stock location, trying to measure pressurized air flow? I can't remember...
Oh, and congrats on the turbo. I'm jealous but must admit I was skeptical based on the sellers history.

Oh, and congrats on the turbo. I'm jealous but must admit I was skeptical based on the sellers history. That is correct. The MAF is in stock placement measuring boosted air. Poor MAF.
As far as tuning it without a CEL, as long as you can replicate the correct signals from the missing second O2 sensor in theory you should be able to tune it. In a perfect world I'd go standalone and we could forget about it, and since this is Ohio and it is the beginning of race season I could probably find a deal on a standalone, but I'm not going to bother. I'd love to be the one to figure out the tuning issue for the rest of us. I'm going to stop talking about tuning like I know anything about it now. All I know is my exhaust smells like gas and that is bad and it needs to be fixed.
I don't blame you for your concerns. I would have never done this deal if it weren't in person, and I was half tempted to not let anyone else do it remotely either, but I didn't want it to look like I was being a mizer. I just didn't want anyone to get "Evan from PE'd." Now that all is said and done I'm glad it went as planned. (Sort of... took an extra day)
I am going to go home and wash my car and go to this Suby meetup in hopes that between 25 boosted cars, one owner will know a guy who knows a guy who is a little closer to home and can help me with this tune. If this doesn't work, I'm going to Slowmotion.

Yeah, I've offered to test fit some RC Engineering injectors in my motor to see if they'll fit. According to my calculations, 270 to 300 cc would be the max we can put into the Yaris and still expect the stock ECU to be able to control at idle.

Waiting for the exhaust. I was going to go to Slowmotion but I changed my mind. I joined Forced 4s, which is a forced induction car club from the Cleveland area. ChinoCharles
04-11-2009, 07:48 PM
Everyone was saying "holy shit that is a boosted Yaris." Nobody was ragging on me. It was refreshing. As of right this second I can claim I'm the only one in the states until Garm gets his on the ground. The unique factor always wins amongst cookie cutter DSM's and SRT-4's.
I hate the exhaust for two reasons. One, it rattles against the heat shield. Two, and this is my big pet peeve, but it sticks out too far from the bumper. It must DIE!
Also, it has no catalytic converter, and I'm all for power but I'm not all for not passing e-check when the time comes, so I'm putting a high-flow cat back in the system. Flame away, but you won't change my mind.

good luck getting it all tuned, once that MAF sees boost you may need to re do your intake piping.

Hey, the Chinotake was the shiznit. I'd stack that bad boy against anything for suction purposes... problem is the car was never tuned to know what to do with it.
Good luck with that Rockland! I know what I could have shaved off my time with better shifts, but my launch was almost perfect. 2500-3000 RPM is the sweet spot for a stockish Yaris on street tires. Get some slicks, up that starting RPM and shift a little faster than I and you might have a prayer for a 15.9.

Long, idling is as good as stock. Idles a little high when it is cold (1100-ish RPM) but once it warms up it goes back to the 750 RPM or so it was before the kit.
Under about 2 grand the engine feels exactly the same as it did before. From 2,000 to 3,200 RPM you can feel a little kick and hear the turbo spool a bit. From 3,200 on its a frickin' rocket. The turbo sounds like 20 vacuum cleaners under my feet.
Garm, I would be honored to send you the Chinotake.

From the Engine Mechanical section of the 2007 repair manual
(5) Inspect the engine idling speed.
Idling speed:
550 to 650 rpm for manual transaxle
650 to 750 rpm for automatic transaxle
NOTICE:
• Turn all the electrical systems and the A/C off.
• Inspect the idling speed with the cooling fan off.
• When checking the idling speed, shift the transmission to either the neutral
