Im considering trading my impreza 5 door, for a 3 door yaris. My reasoning may not be sound, but it will save me on gas (avg. 27 which isn't bad) also save me on insurance about 400 a year. I also seem to drive alot alone to classes and work and I feel guilty for not having a more fuel efficient car.

Well, if saving money is a reason to trade in, then it sounds like a sound decision to me. Either that or get a girlfriend so you are not alone anymore =) Welcome to the forum. I'd say 99% of us are glad we made the decision to downsize or upgrade to the Yaris. Have you had the chance to test drive one yet?

Are you crazy? Maybe a little bit, but thats alright.
I've always been impressed by Subaru's probably will consider getting one for my next car if I stay in a northern climate, but I've liked the reliability and fuel efficiency of Toyota better, probably why I bought one!
If you haven't test driven one yet, I'd say get behind the wheel of one soon, just to make sure you know what kind of car you're getting. If you don't plan on doing much modding, and are looking for just a easy daily driver/econo-box, then the Yaris is great!

Definitely go for a test drive first to make sure you like driving the Yaris.
I had a Honda CRX before, and still miss the acceleration. Otherwise, I'm pretty happy with my Yaris for now.
BTW, that silver Subaru is sexy!

Logic says you're crazy to trade in such a new car for those reasons, but life changes and if the Yaris is going to fit your lifestyle better long term, then go for it.
I personally did a trade similar to this when we got our Yaris and I still miss the refinement, power etc of a much more expensive car, but I don't miss the higher maintenance fees or the extra money in my pocket from gas, insurance savings etc.

The cost of trading in will take years to get back through gas savings. If you save 10mpg and drive 12,000 miles per year at $2.00/gallon you would save $240 per year. I am not sure where you got your insurance figures, but I think that the Yaris is very expensive to insure.

I'd say smart decision, because that's what I wanted (better mpg, lower operating costs, etc...) when I went from my last car to the 3-door Yaris, and I haven't regretted it at all. My last ride was a '05 GTO, pretty much like what Mr. Hopper is using as a park bench, right down to the custom wheels, except his look like 8" wheels (width) on the rear and my tires were a staggered setup with 10" on the rear.

Really? I didn't realize that. I was quoted the same thing for both a 2007 FIT and my 2007 Yaris more or less a couple of dollars when I was looking at cars a couple of months ago. My rates didn't go up all that much when I got the Yaris. If you want numbers, I will try to dig out the paperwork this WE.

Thats the bad part about subaru impreza's the WRX wreaks all impreza insurance premiums. I was told the yaris would cost about 500 every 6 months.

Just got my insurance bill on my Yaris. It was $186.36 from April 13th, the day I bought the car, until July 18th. This works out to $354.28 for a full six month premium.
I have State Farm Insurance, and I get a multi-car discount and a good driver discount.
