About to buy my 09 and thought the Toyota glossy multi-page brochure was accurate.

The Yaris brochure said radio/CD/MP3 standard on Yaris.

Dealer says "Nah" It's $1,000 more to upgrade to the S."

That's not what the glossy brochure says, I tell the dealer.

I'm getting a great deal so I do not call their bluff and I walk away without the radio.

So I take my concern to Toyota and their response is...

"You should've read the fine print"

Where do I go from here?

You can buy it as a HU.
You can get in the Power package.
You can get it in the S trim.

The base-base, no power anything has no radio at all, just speakers with wiring ready for a HU. If that's that model you're getting, you're better off just looking for an aftermarket radio. the HU compared to what is out on the market?--- you will always find better components for your money out on the market.

So first tell us what you bought.

Did the car come with any radio at all? if so what features is it missing that you want?My 08 Sedan came with an AM/FM,CD,MP3 radio although once i got it home i found out it had no MP3 jack just the ability to play MP3 CD's:iono:.

Hmm mine is what i thought was the base model, but it came with a radio/cd player/ mp3 jack etc. No power anything but an mp3 jack always struck me as odd. But unfortunately your not going to be able to rescind your contract on the grounds that it doesnt have a radio. Its pretty much gonna be.."you looked at the car, you saw, or shouldve seen, what it came with, and then you bought it, tough luck". Now if you were promised delivery of one with a radio and got one without, different story.

Did you buy it or no? If not i think hes just trying to "upgrade" you to the S, so he makes more $.

Problem is that the base model is different in many local markets. Here they can't sell it without the cold weather package, which includes radio and MP3 jack, along with rear wiper, defroster, and 15in wheels.

You may not have a good reason to kill the deal over the radio. It is up to you if you want to look around at other dealers to see if you can find one with the convenience package for essentially the same price.

I wouldn't pay extra for the salesman to fit you a Toyota radio though. You can do it much cheaper and with better features yourself in a Saturday afternoon.

If you decide to buy it and don't want to spend the $1,000 , I replaced my 09's radio, so I'd be willing to sell you mine for a lot less than that...

Every new car has a sticker on it that lists each and every standard feature and option on that car. Read it.

Brochures are advertising. I bet somewhere in that brochure there was a disclaimer that "some options shown are only standard on the S package". Even if not, you can bitch, but it's not going to help anything. The sticker on the car you're looking at is what you're bargaining for.

"The Yaris brochure said radio/CD/MP3 standard on Yaris."

The brochure is wrong. I've seen 2009 Yarii at the dealership just last week, and I was really surprised to see that some of them don't have radio at all.

I thought my Yaris was the base model because there is no power anything [which is fine by me] but my Yaris still came with factory-installed radio with the MP3 jack, rear wiper, factory mats.
