The Official "Bambo the Yarisworld Traveler" Thread (V3)

For those who are new to YarisWorld, Bambo was our little stuffed panda friend who loved to travel. For two to three weeks, Bambo visited a different YW member and documented his travels by photo. Bambo had many harrowing adventures, including being lost in Thailand during the 2008 riots. Unfortunately, Bambo has become lost in Mexico. Luckily, his twin, [Panda] also loves to travel, and has decided to take it upon himself to continue Bambo's tradition. But, [Panda] doesn't have a name! What should we name [Panda]?

From November 2, to November 9, we take name suggestions.
The following week, November 10 to 17, we vote.

So far we have:

The original creator of the Bambo concept was a YarisWorld member by the name of NemesisZ. NemesisZ became unreachable after the hack so *MAD DOG* volunteered to take over running the thread. Due to unforeseen circumstances, *MAD DOG* is unable to continue administering the thread. I've volunteered to take over, so let's get this going.

I'm not MIA .. been really busy ... unfortunately I didn't have the time I wanted to spend with the little guy meaning taking him to the places I wanted to take him. That's because if you haven't heard, Lower NY/Long Island is the new Seattle. It's been raining for the past 2 weeks literally. All the outdoor places I wanted were pretty much rained out. Bambo IS on his way to VA via USPS. Whatever pics I have left I'll post up (still haven't dumped the camera lately). Just wish I had better weather :(.

Oh and KCALB SIRAY, I didn't catch your real name so it was sent to your address with KCALB SIRAY as the recipient lol. Also, I accidenlty packed him in an upside down box, so be sure to open the package from the bottom, NOT the top.

May not be a year, when you consider how many people have been skipped because they could not be contacted.

I think I want to have whoever is receiving Bambo to start the process of contacting whomever is next as soon has he arrives. That should allow plenty of time for whoever is next to get back in touch with the current holder. If whomever is next doesn't reply after about a week, the holder will contact the next on the list.

I think waiting until the holder's time is nearly up was causing a bit of a slowdown, and I want everyone to have a chance to see him. :wink:

Just a note for you second timers, do you mind if first timers get added ahead of your second time around? I'd like everyone to have a chance with him.

If you have any issues, one option is that I can "shuffle" the first timers in between you guys.

Another option is that I can put a date beside your request to see him second, and after 30 days you'll get "locked in" to that spot. Does that sound fair?

I'd appreciate your opinions prior to any others signing up, if that's possible. We just had a new addition, and I want to make sure everything seems fair to both first and second timers. I'd hate for you 2nd timers to not say anything and to keep getting pushed down the list.

If anyone has another ideas for handling the ordering of second timers, I'd love to hear it.

After a few hours at the center, we dicided to head home. Bambo was telling me about his Vitz back home, and wanted to know if I would let him drive. Of course I couldn't say no!!

Monday came too quickly, but it just so happened to be "Bring your Panda to work day" at the office. Bambo was really interested in my vest. Although it was a bit big, he could hold his own if needed.

I showed Bambo where I spend most of my time doing internal investigations in the interrogation room. We decided we would do a little role play and act out a scene from one of his favorite shows, NYPD :biggrin:

Darb, I don't want to get in the way of others getting Bambo for the first time, or cause any tension (if there is any), so you can keep or take off "2nd timers" as you see fit. It's all good.

as a first timer who has not received him yet, my argument is for one of the options that darb set forth... put them tentative at the end of the list, and then at 30 days, lock them in... if another person who has not had a turn checks in before then, 2nd timers move down as necessary... after that, people that are added must PM appropriate 2nd timers requesting moving up... then appropriate 2nd timer would PM darb(if he is still running at that time) and notify what was decided(move 1st timer ahead), if decided...



on a different note, here is a suggestion for more time to get the address... when the person before you gets the little guy, PM the next person on the list... for example, when jbougie gets him, i PM darb, that way address will be attained with more notice(just in case someone is unable to regularly access their computer accounts)...

Darb, I don't want to get in the way of others getting Bambo for the first time, or cause any tension (if there is any), so you can keep or take off "2nd timers" as you see fit. It's all good.

No tension, I mostly just want to get a method in place in order to prevent any future tension.

as a first timer who has not received him yet, my argument is for one of the options that darb set forth... put them tentative at the end of the list, and then at 30 days, lock them in... if another person who has not had a turn checks in before then, 2nd timers move down as necessary... after that, people that are added must PM appropriate 2nd timers requesting moving up... then appropriate 2nd timer would PM darb(if he is still running at that time) and notify what was decided(move 1st timer ahead), if decided...

on a different note, here is a suggestion for more time to get the address... when the person before you gets the little guy, PM the next person on the list... for example, when jbougie gets him, i PM darb, that way address will be attained with more notice(just in case someone is unable to regularly access their computer accounts)...

Echo, thanks for the suggestion, I think the 30 day "lock in" is probably the way to go. It gives newcomers a chance to get in and still keeps 2nd timers from getting shoved down the list each time someone new arrives.

Good idea on the address, that way, whoever has Bambo can focus on taking pictures and having fun while the next person focuses on figuring out who is second in line.

John and I were discussing that if it was ok with everyone, that Bambo can stay the extra week with me and make the 10 hour road trip to the ImportAlliance show and I can hand him off to John. So our question to the OP is, would that pose a problem for anyone? If so, then I can pack him up and send him but we don't want John to miss him in transit due to a slow mail service from the USPS. Bambo decided to join me at an all-night birthday party where the theme was funky hats and wigs. I wasn't able to find a hat of Bambo's size, but they let him in anyway (I have connections).

hey i have another suggestion idea to make things even easier for transport arrangements... i would suggest to look up who has the little guy before you, then just go ahead and PM the person who has him before you... i would just PM JBougie and i would receive a PM from Darb, then planning for approximate cost will be easier with more time... this is brought up because right at the moment, unless i have time to plan for the cost, arranging the money for shipping will try very hard to break my budget... just a thought... i wanted to suggest this before i started to try to put it into practice...

Due to my recent pending divorce lol, I am going to be changing up my annual end-of-year vacation - I am scheduled around that time to have Bambo ... I will be going to Vegas Dec. 16th, so whoever has him before/after me ... I would like to try and schedule to have him during that week. If that's possible, it would rock. Then he can hit up the Twin Cities and Vegas.... I will even break the golden rule and take pictures of what happens there lol :)
